“The California Air Resources Board (CARB) finalized the Advanced Clean Fleet rule, which would mandate that 50% of all state and local government vehicle fleet purchases be 50% zero-emissions by 2024, and 100% by 2027, and create a registry for drayage trucks. The rule — which comes one day after the board voted to implement the state’s first-ever rules to limit train emissions — would go even further than recent California rules approved by President Joe Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency, which would cut diesel truck sales in half by 2035.”

Chris Shimoda, senior vice president of the California Trucking Association, told local station KRON4 that the consequences of these rules will be “chaos and dysfunction” like “nothing we’ve ever seen before.”

“The amount of chaos and dysfunction that is going to be created by this rule will be like nothing we’ve ever seen before,” said Shimoda.“The likelihood that it is going to fail pretty spectacularly is very high. It’s very unfortunate.”

The banning of diesel trucks will prolly, eventually, make the Bering strait maglev tunnel rail connection a reality: No more messy ports. No more big 18 wheelers going across the country. Goods moving from all over Asia, Eurasia and even Europe, to and from the Americas. This is a vision of the future, however.

The building of railway lines is also fraught with politics, blood, sweat and tears, even wars. Not to mention that the lefty ideologues that plague CA are jumping the gun: There are NO electric trucks available of that 18-wheeler caliber. Furthermore, those big-rigs are currently the most efficient way to move goods, no matter what your ideological persuasion is.

As it is, truckers are pushed to their very limits, with very little sleep. Imagine if they had to stop for recharging! It would put such demands on the grid, but also the workforce, as there would just not be enough trucks ON the road. They would all be sitting by the roadside waiting for the next battery-charge. This is a hypothetical situation, as I have yet to see an electric 18 wheeler. Are we just going to scrap the entire 18 wheeler fleet? What a waste!

Also, the traditional railways are in disrepair, and would have been used by now, if they were a viable alternative. Instead, we see more and more rail disasters.

In the mean time, I suggest Americans consider thinking locally. Stop eating imported foods, stop using imported goods. Buy toys made by a veteran wooden toy maker, Get a local grandma to knit your jerseys etc. Also, support your local mom and pop outfits, whether butcher, baker or candlestick maker, that run a small delivery van - even if it is a politically correct, electric one.
