I might also point out that the younger management that has come up in the years lately prefers to hook our power grid to computer controlled devices where we as powerlineman prefer the old manual switches. 🤔
Don’t have a smart home! No Alexa, smart electronics, smart plugs, etc. I got an Alexa for a Birthday present once and I told them to immediately return it.
If you can, refuse the smart meter. Last summer they were installing them in my neighborhood. I told them no several times. They told me it would be an extra 40 a month, fine, fuckers. So far, no extra 40 a month. They may be using that tactic to persuade people. Not saying it won't happen.
This is EXACTLY why they are pushing internet-connected versions of everything. Door locks, fridges, cars, you name it. If it has networking capabilities, it can be remotely manipulated. Even passive circuits like NFC are a risk.
The only thing I want with an internet connection is my fucking computer.
And yea, my handheld computer (phone) but seriously considering having one for internet stuff and one (dumb phone) for calls.
who the heck buys a an appliance ( that used to be) designed to last thirty years but which will get security software updates for about two, if you are lucky...
An episode from Mr. Robot taught me never, ever to have a smart home.

I agree with "smart homes" just not that amazon tyrants should control it. All my stuff is on WiFi smart power switches and it is super useful.
But I put a mask over my Alexa! ReEeEeEeEee
