Let's start by NOT calling them "Fossil" Fuels anymore. I work in the oil and gas industry and 20 years ago, one of the publications we received had an article about how old wells that were capped off as empty in the 1960's were refilling.
Crude oil is circulating via natural abiotic process within the earth. The big oil barons knew this and had to label it as "limited" so they could artificially inflate the value to enrich themselves.
