One of the comments mentions Acts 15, so I looked it up. Acts 15:19-20 (ESV) states "Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God, but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood."
I compared the translation to the Greek and to the Vulgate. This is literally what it says, "from what has been strangled." The NIV (a translation OWNED by Zondervan) added "animals" into the translation. However, since these two verses are discussing idolatry, sexual immorality (undefined with whom/what), and blood as well, it stands to reason this entire section is about human sacrifice.
