Ahhh, Tom Paine the troll... Are you Van Morrison? To say anything is absolute is certainly foolish.
I didn't say teenagers didn't drink cherry wine... I even mentioned the narrator possibly being a kid.
Although it's vague, I tend to lean towards it's taking a teens viewpoint. However, 14 is still 14. Still questionable lyrics to be singing at 24 or whatever Van Morrison was at the time.
Did you know that Georgia didn't raise their age of consent law minimum age until 1995? It was 14 until 1995 and Georgia was the last state to raise it above 14. They raised it all the way to 15... Then in 2005 they raised it to 16. They tried to raise it to 18 but the bill failed. Figures - looks like Georgia's lawmakers have been corrupt for a long time.
I don't know where Van Morrison was when he wrote that song but I was surprised we had a state with a 14yo age of consent for that long. I was also surprised that Washington State appears to have an age of consent of 21.
It depends on if the narrator is also a kid .... But then he's drinking cherry wine... So yeah, no.
Not s great song. Right up there with Christine Sixteen
The narrator is absolutely a kid.
If you think teenagers didn't drink cherry wine in Northern Ireland in the 1950's I don't know what to tell you.

Pseudointellectuals are easy to spot.
I've seen enough of his posts to see what he's doing.
Plus he appears to be a YUGE Van Morrison fan. 😂
From what I can tell, he has not performed it since the late 70s
Also, if you look at his songwriting SINCE that time, you may (as I do) find that Van has NOT written anything about underage sexual interaction.
In fact, since the early 1980s, much of his work has been focused on spiritual enlightenment and pointing out corruption in our modern society.
I'm going to give him a pass on this accusation unless more evidence is brought.
I know lots of teens that drank growing up...
Me too. But still, he's talking about a 14 year old girl and the song appears on his album when he's 23.
I honestly don't think he's a pedo to be clear, but to quote Michael Bluth "There's gotta be a better way to say that"
Well......she was just seventeen.
You know what I mean.
I mean c'mon.
But the way she looked.....was way beyond statutory limitations. __ Saul McCartney/Juan Limone

Stray Cat Blues anyone? Sir Mick is a pedo, if not why was he knighted?
In her majesty's secret satanic service.
