It's almost like pat downs and searches at different events are not necessary but they are done to in some ways to humiliate people. Humiliate may be too hard of a word for what they are doing but it is what came to mind for me.

Every single person in that stadium, when funneled in, were scanned for contraband...you have no idea it's even happening.

Yeah when you're getting patted down it's by amateur security or because they want you to feel uncomfortable.
