Isn't it a little embarrassing to publish this thing about "voting with the team" right before the secret ballot results come out with Jim Jordan yesses trailing noes by about forty votes, and then he pulls his own name?
Or are you thinking this is all just distraction/preamble for a "surprise" announcement for DJT as speaker on Monday?
"If you are this big a RINO, to hold up congress because you are butt-hurt we did the right thing and that embarrassed you, exposed you to your constituents as to what you are, you can go pound sand."
“If the holdouts who refuse to vote for Speaker-Designate Jim Jordan would be willing to 'vote with the team' and elect him the 56th House Speaker, we are prepared to accept censure, suspension, or removal from the Conference to accomplish this objective.”
Huh, it was my understanding he chose to drop out after the results of the secret ballot, which was a temperature-getting, confidence vote and not a binding resolution or anything. Could be wrong.
You may be right about that. I guess my understanding from reading the article is that the republicans held a secret vote to demonstrate how strong their support was for JJ, only to find out 112, when voting secretly, were actually against him.
It might just be semantics, either way, it seems he is out for now. But, he has been "out" 3 or 4 times now so who the heck knows? 🤦🏻♂️
Correct! And seeing that level of support, or lack thereof, caused Jim Jordan to step down. He wasn't forced out by the vote procedurally, but socially.
The secret ballot allowing people to vote without reprisal is why we probably won't see the plot twist of Speaker Trump.
But also, you make a good point - less than a week in, those who want JJ to go are standing fairly firm. But the same people who don't want him are mostly the same people who get really worried about Congress not accomplishing anything, especially military spending for empire maintenance projects. Whereas the 8 above and allies are absolutely peachy keen fine to just sit around and NOT give Warhawk Biden his murder allowance this time.
Of course, there's still the Senate, but I start to get hazy on just how much can be done without the House at all. These kinds of scenarios weren't really covered too thoroughly back in high school.
IIRC, the house is needed for any and all budgetary matters, as you are pointing out with the military spending.
The Senate is required to approve federal judges.
They both do much more than that, but without the house, the government is effectively shut down when it comes to spending money. Many people are okay with this right now.
Speaking of the secret ballot...
The ballot is secret to us. But it isn't secret to whoever counted the votes. It sure would be interesting if that person passed on the list of RINOs to, I don't know, maybe Trump? kek
It will do nothing. If you listen to what he says, he says they will still vote Republican, etc. But they are willing to take some serious public hits in order to get Jim Jordan elected.
He is basically putting the RINOs on the spot by saying, "Look you hate us, but you have given no reasons that you won't vote for Jim. So hate us all you want. Censor us. Remove us from your conference. Do whatever you want. Just vote for Jim."
As I read the letter from the face of it, the penalties are limited to the boundary of the Republican caucus, not their representation in the House on behalf of their constituents. So Gaetz would not be affected in his representing his people, in committee work or voting on the House floor, right?
Edit: imho, the significant signature on this is Buck, who did not vote for Jordan.
For the 8 Representatives, this will be like Trump’s mugshot.

IMO, this should have read:
"If you are this big a RINO, to hold up congress because you are butt-hurt we did the right thing and that embarrassed you, exposed you to your constituents as to what you are, you can go pound sand."
Signed,
The Constituency
I'd cosign that.

He dropped out.
Technically, he was voted out via secret ballot.
112 RINOs dropped JJ.
See here for updates.

What will the RINOs do and say now?
Newt Gingrich conference call incoming.
