Read through the comments. The owner of the mall (the Crocker Galleria) is embroiled in a lawsuit trying to cancel the leases of the last 3 remaining tenants so he can turn the mall into office space.
In the mean time, he can't do anything which might violate the terms of the lease and give the holdouts a legal footing to destroy his eviction order.
Some of the stores look like stuff is in there. Some stores have their names above them. Don't be a little beyotch. It's hard to tell with the reflection on the glass whether the stores are empty or not. And, I can't tell what time it is, i.e., 8:00am (before opening) or 4:00pm.
I considered whether it was a new mall, not fully occupied or weeks before the grand opening, etc., otherwise, why is a man sitting there and why are all the pretty decorations put out?

I don’t know if it’s this mall or not; but there is a mall in the Bay Area that lost a ADA lawsuit because all the stores on the mid level were inaccessible to wheelchairs so they had to shut the mid level down. Seems like this could be the case since we only see the middle level and not the top or main floor.
Between the theft, the “minimum wage” so high, everyone ordering online, we soon won’t have any real stores to shop in. Control. You can walk into a store and pay with cash, but not online. Squeezing us into digital currency one step at a time while destroying the malls. How clever.
Not symptomatic nor indicative of what is happening in malls across the country. However, mall shopping is in decline and trending downward... just not this dramatic. But I do know of two malls in my city which have failed. One is just empty and the other has been converted to other kinds of business.
