The Russians were cooperating with them for a time. The Molotov-Ribbentrop pact for instance. And later hosted their own “Operation Paperclip” where they employed many former German Officers and Scientists. Records such as any war-crimes their pet Nazis participated in. Would be heartily inconvenient. Given they started a Moral Pissing match with the West the past couple years. Demanding the Ukrainian S.S Vet from Canada be extradited. And have been trumpeting the fact Ukraine is run by Nazis.
They also allegedly destroyed/captured Documents relating to Soviet Operations in Ukraine. Frankly it’s likely the records detailing Soviet Operations and shenanigans in Ukraine was the real target.
And the records of the Nazi Operations. Were more or less accidental collateral damage. Or intentionally destroyed/stolen to obfuscate which documents they were really after.
The Soviets were notorious for their own Black-Projects and SAPs. And maintained a compartmentalization and paranoia that made the CIA look sane and well adjusted.
After JFKs assassination for instance the KGB launched multiple internal investigations just to make sure it wasn’t one of their cells.
So it’s possible the Russians dug up information on a forgotten Soviet black project or SAP they’d rather stay buried.
