Yeah people use it as a "forced savings" and act like they're winning the lottery.
I think it's stupid, I want all my money up front. Not being withheld from me so the government can collect interest on my money
I wonder what percentage of us would neglect to save anything for the tax man if there was no withholding? Probably enough that the whole thing would come crashing down.
They automate taxation as much as possible as a mechanism to prevent taxpayers from refusing to pay in protest, change my mind.
That's what I'm starting to think
I don't pay federal or state a dime during the year. When I work on the side, there is nothing withheld, so I have to pay the whole thing myself in April. As long as the money is in my money market account, it's making a bit of interest for me. I made over twice as much as my SS this past year, so I get to pay income tax on 85% of my SS.
Right, I'm just saying there's a large portion of the population (cough democrats cough) that could never be responsible enough to manage having that money sitting there and not touch it.
I've managed two years in a row now. But I'm retiring 100% so I don't have to worry about this again.
Well done, that's a way better idea! Retiring someday, hopefully sooner rather than later, is part of what motivates me to get up and work.
I "went Galt" almost 20 years ago from working at a regular job. I wasn't fully appreciated. I saved the whole company at Y2K by rewriting crucial software that would have closed the entire company permanently.
I work when I want, take all the money I can get from well-off people, and take nothing from those who can't afford much. But those I let off cheap always want to give me more money than I ask for.

But in the case of people who got "refunds" when they never paid taxes to start with, they aren't getting real refunds but further welfare.

We never get a refund. They want to charge us a penalty for not paying year end taxes 'owed' quarterly. BUT, they don't pay quarterly interest on refunds they pay out.
And for me, they overcharge, then demand that you give them more and more.
Next: Stop calling it “income”.
I got charged a penalty one year, for not advancing them enough of an interest-free loan beforehands.....

They have made it so that there is no way to not pay taxes if you are employed. The employer will not employ you without withholding taxes.
I worked on the side for a rich man, so zero was withheld. On the other hand, he sent me a 1099 so I have to report it.
To be honest I made so little one year that i didn’t even pay taxes and I got $200 back from my state and $2 federal. So yes some extreme poverty cases it is a refund
Firstly we all should have no withdrawls on our paycheck. We should get paid , same day, however, end of week is acceptable. HOWEVER, employers are using your money if you wait TWO WEEKS. Thats the first thing.
Next, if you do not have the government in your pocket every week withdrawing from you, then you could invest it in an IRA, as one option, or buy gold for your safe etc. Then when its tax time, should you choose to give it to the criminals, then you APPLY FOR AN EXTENSION.
Then you have an extra time period. Then, you let that time pass and wait to be contacted, and then, if you feel pressured enough, you can decide to do so.
REMEMBER this is a affidavit of yours that can be challenged for accuracy and if they deem it wrong or Falsified, you can go to jail. Imagine how disruptive that would be. In the pen without being able to control your belongings. And they may decide to confiscate your belongings or leverage you while your under the microscope or in jail. So this is some very serious BS going on here.
REMEMBER, this Taxation was passed in a midnight BS fix job session over the Christmas holiday in the 1914ish timespan. A time when TARRIFS, covered all the expenses. Remember Tarrifs ? Trump made it a point how effective they are and how upside down this criminal org is. THINK !
