Just like lawfare, the process is the punishment. Good luck. Once clerical errors enter the system only your time energy and wealth will stop this. You are in the system that neither cares if you make a mistake or has a way to stop this soul crushing debt. Get in front of a judge as soon as you can. IF, you get a summons go to it. What happened to us was we were summoned but each got a call saying it was canceled. We went to it anyway. Surprise, surprise, the court date was still valid. We would have been fined for contempt. The judge listed to our side of the story. Vacated the charges and killed all the lawfare shenanigans. But it took time, effort, and money. The stress you are under is brutal. You will never get your piece of life back.
I resolved an error last year by sending them a nice letter explaining my error and after a ridiculously long wait they fixed the problem. The one thing that is certain with the IRS is that you cannot get anyone on the phone so it will take 6-9 months to fix a problem.
Only way is to schedule a call with someone. Lol
Doesn’t TurboTax “guarantee” it’s accurate if you type in the correct information? I’d start by reaching out to them.

crap. I don't have any damages yet. I will call them tomorrow and see if they are just reasonable about this situation, if not I will get in touch with a lawyer. Just wtf. Thanks
I would contact a lawyer before talking to anyone from the irs, and also record any conversations I have with my bank or irs. Save all records too.

My understanding is TurboTax lobbies heavily to keep us having to do our own taxes when they could (like most countries) just be figured automatically, for most regular taxpayers at least (e.g. not have own business or whatnot).
My congressman helped me out with an IRS problem circa 1989. I documented everything and took it to his office. His assistant said they have someone in the office to deal with these IRS matters. I got a letter from him stating I would get a full refund of the amount, and a letter of apology from the IRS. I got the refund, but not a letter of apology. Vic Fazio was the congressman back then, a democrat. I was a registered republican.

Calling IRS waives your Constitutional rights. Certified mail with green card return receipt only.
All payroll tax can be refunded by correcting W-2 with Form 4852 and making Box 1 $0 and filing with 1040-X Amended return. You can go back 5 years before IRS starts squealing about it. Use language in item #2 below on Form 4852 (line9) for how you came up with “correction”. On line10, say you sent letter to employer requesting W-2 correction. Use same language in #2 for employer letter. You just have to make the request, employer likely will do nothing.

I did that so I am not sure. They take so long I have no idea. I dnn't work till late tomorrow so I am gonna try calling, if that doesn't work I will write them a letter.
