He is now the Republican nominee and is entitled to secret service protection, for those reasons alone. As a former president he would have detail too.
I'm aware he has had a lot of security after 2021, however, you have to take into consideration, that he is now a presidential candidate and entitled to SS protection (with Kennedy as an obvious exception).
He's had a lot from the start. Well before he said he was running, he had a lot. He just wasn't out flaunting it like he is now.
Also, I have never seen ANY candidate get that kind of security detail, unless they were an incumbent POTUS.

This is a topic that's come up quite a bit, and I've observed & commented on it a bit.
I haven't done as much research into it to draw a firm conclusion, but I can tell you this much beyond a doubt, based on publicly available videos & images:
Even after "leaving office", President Trump seems to have continued receiving a complete, comprehensive, full-bore United States Secret Service Security Detail that appears to be 100% IDENTICAL in size, complexity, and composition to that of a SITTING President.
I won't post here out of laziness & some delusions of OPSEC (LOL) but there's lots of widely available info out there describing in general terms the Presidential Motorcade. I'd really encourage my frens here to do your own research & check my conclusions.
The motorcade for a sitting US President is enormous. Huge. Extremely elaborate. MASSIVE.
(We have the biggest motorcades, folks; don't we?? YUGE!)
The actual motorcade itself; meaning the actual President & all his staff / attendants; is I believe at least 20-30 cars.
That's NOT including state & local law enforcement.
Each presidential motorcade is always accompanied by literally hundreds (or more) of state & Local LEO. Motorcycles seem to always lead the way, driving miles ahead of the actual motorcade to clear a road, completely block any & all cross-traffic, etc. etc.
Anyhow; If you search my username, at some point in the past ~6 months you should see a comment I made on a threat where POTUS Trump made an appearance in Florida.
I commented that you could absolutely, clearly, unequivocally see the USSS' CAT / Counter Assault Team (SWAT) in their typical Suburban SUV, full tactical gear, etc.
I don't know for sure, but I can pretty much guarantee that, while of course actual former POTUS' get USSS security for life, that absolutely does NOT include a full-blown, Sitting President Motorcade, of 20++ cars, vans, SUV's, motorcycles, an entire squad of local & state LEO.....and the USSS CAT Team......
I COULD well be mistaken, but.....its fun to think I'm not. :-D
It always amazes me seeing his motorcade and all the security that goes with it. What's even more impressive is the throngs of people lined up to see him.
Perhaps it’s the right amount of security for the CIC.
He is under constant threat of assassination by domestic and foreign parties.
He has Secret Service for life as a past president, but also pays for his own, separate, private security that works in addition to the SS protection.
It must cost a fortune!
