A woman, an amputee, who originally worked for the British (she was an American), but then worked for the OSS under Wild Bill Donovan. “A Woman of No Importance”. The book highlighted the incompetence of these Intel agencies. It was an excellent book. She helped get the French Resistance armed and tactically ready for after the Allies landed. She was desperately sought after by the Nazis but evaded them.
Virginia Hall now has a CIA building named after her. She would not have liked the CIA of today.
The vision for the specfor was to help Americans throw off an insurgency. They were chartered to help US.
