so a planned event then?
They kinda failed when it got cold in the winter a few years ago.
This actually is a planned outage, for maintenance purposes. They are just issuing a notice that they need to delay a planned outage because they don't have enough reserve resources stocked up elsewhere in the power grid to support the usual demand during the planned maintenance outage. Here's the official Advance Action Notice that they issued: https://www.ercot.com/files/docs/2024/04/26/ERCOT_Trending_Topic_AAN.pdf

This is the same question I have.
When are we building back better?
So if you want to make a bunch of people angry at the establishment, do a power outage in Texas.
Obama forced Texas to shutter several of its power plants in the name of climate change, which is why ERCOT is and has been strained.
Any outages we experience in Texas are the DIRECT result of Obama/Biden and the Climate Change HOAX
Maybe they should, oh, I dunno, spin back up a nuke plant or two ...
“Should” depends on whether their intention is to serve or subvert.
We’ve seen what a lot of them intend to do.
What’s the deal with the Texas grid. It’s my understanding that historically it has been independent and highly reliable, but in the last decade the Feds forced a number of changes. Anyone have detail?
'sustainable' = 'unreliable'.
Rick Perry. He advocated for wind power and in 2005 he raised the amount/goal of what Texas was supposed to have in Gigawatts from Wind Power. He's from a small town near Abilene, and that area of Teas would benefit from the taxes the wind companies paid. Small towns envisioned lots of money coming into their towns and schools - and it did. It also probably helped him get reelected.
He also forced the power companies to pass the cost of new transmission lines needed to carry the electricity to other parts of the state on to the rate payers - us.
He didn't force them to do the proper maintenance and winter weathering, so when it actually got really cold (not Texas cold) they froze up.
We went all in on "renewable" and "sustainable" energy a few years ago, such as wind, and we've been paying the price ever since.
ERCOT
They had a massive solar farm wiped out in a hail storm. And the democrats won’t let them crank up the natural gas power plants like they did in that big winter freeze. They have been shutting down coal plants. Those used to supply power all the way to California in the summer. At a nice premium price.
Here's an idea, maybe their State government could pass a law requiring adequate reserves be maintained to avoid these situations. I bet they even have the power to levy massive fines if they fail to do this.
Lol. What, they didn't charge up their batteries? Maybe check the basement for some old boxes of energy that are just being overlooked.
