Avenetti (or whatever his name is) claims SD and Davidson were trying to extort Trump.
The money Trump supposedly used to pay SD was campaign funding, to be quiet until after the 2016 election.
Some claim Trump simply paid her like a whore.
I don't believe any of it, but I don't know how to combat the bullshit when people say it.

Cohen paid Stormy Daniels and Trump reimbursed him personally as lawyers fees. From what I understand Trump and Daniels never had an affair, but she was threatening to claim they did and the money was to keep her quiet.
The NYC charge is for misclassifying the payments to Cohen, a misdemeanor. The statute of limitations expired so they upcharged to a felony. In order for it to be a felony, the misclassification of the payment needed to be done to cover up a crime. They haven’t named a crime, just ‘election interference.’

Turns out Trump did not use campaign money he used his own money listed as paying for legal services. Using campaign money would be illegal turns out he did not use funds from the campaign. He used his own money to pay his bills.

An interesting question for your friends would be what is Trump being charged with? All the innuendo about Stormy Daniels work and the pussy tape is just that: innuendo. It is intended to smear.
According to the above article, the charges do not actually mention a crime! The plot is: Trump had an affair with Daniels; he wanted that covered up prior to 2016; he paid her hush money through his attorney; he then falsified the accounts and paid her, illegally, from campaign funds.
Some problems: Trump denies any affair; Daniels denies any affair; Trump does not do his own accounts; the payments in the charge were from 2017 when Trump was no longer running his company - his children were.

In the case of Stormy Daniels, she had another potential buyer and Cohen didn't have time to arrange the payment.
Acting on his own, Cohen transferred money he supposedly took out for a home improvement loan to a shell company and issued a check.
Cohen paid Stormy $130,000 and charged Trump a total of $420,000 in lawyer fees. Nice payday until his lies were exposed.
