Best long term food storage vendors?
posted 2 years ago by Jammyjams 2 years ago by Jammyjams +27 / -0

I already have some freeze dried food I purchased, but wondering what people think is the best flavor/bang for your buck vendor right now?

Looking to acquire some more food soon. Thx for any advice in advance

I was pleased with what i got from https://www.mypatriotsupply.com/collections/long-term-food-storage

Large customer base. Lots of reviews. This is a purchase I'd want to have some faith in that it would be usable if the need ever came up.
There's always canning your own stuff if you feel safe doing it.

Consider canning your own. A lot of those packaged foods way too salty or low calorie. Though I do have some but when I can my own I can what we like.

My plan was - what do I go to the grocery store for? Meat, dairy, produce. So I watch for sales, make double/triple and can it myself.

Do you can your meat? I bought a pressure cooker but haven’t been brave enough to try it. Hoping my garden will give me enough to can this year to get some practice. Its just meat is so expensive, we purchase from a farm by the half and freeze right now but always worried about power failure. We have a generator but I’d like to store more on shelves. If you do can your own meat do you rotate it yearly?

Yes, I love pressure canning meat - or anything else. Heat and pressure kills any bacteria. Much safer than water bath canning. Just get a Ball canning book and follow instructions to the T. Dont try to hurry the process. I can plain meats, stews, meaty soups, even bacon, burgers, sausages. I dont have access to meat as you do so I buy from grocer when on sale and when I have a good bit I can it because I also worry about power outs. Happened to me in the past.

Lots of youtubes on it. My favorite is Rose Red Homestead because she explains the why and always takes no chances with her canning.

BUT in your case you need a pressure CANNER for meats or low acid foods not a pressure COOKER.

As for rotating, I do it with everything anyway but pressure canned meats are safe for AT LEAST 10 years. Mine never sit on the shelf that long.

I do hope you and anyone else here give it a try. I really think you'll be happy. Feeling a bit more safe and secure these days.

Thank you for the info! I have a canning book and a pressure cooker it’s just getting the nerve to do it. I think I’ll teach my kids this summer, we moved them to homeschool last fall and we can learn together I guess.

be sure you have the pressure CANNER not just a pressure COOKER if you are jarring up meats. (Some can do both) Canning and cooking are different procedures.

Dont be afraid. Its time consuming but once you get the hang of it you will be so proud of yourself.

Don't hesitate to do it. It's really easy. I have done ground beef, sausage (loose, not links), stewing beef, chicken breast. My dad does salmon.

Stew is easy too. (Don't can noodles or rice in your stews; they mess with the PH and can ruin it)

Buy stock or broth. Brown the beef to make it look better and can away!

25 pound pages of oat rice and beans stored in a food safe bucket. Very cheap and easy to store. You can put them in mylar bags to store even longer.

Check out Augason Farms. I bought it through Sams Club but don't think there is much difference in price right now. 30 day bucket for $106.

Nothing beats the food supply warehouses financed by the Church of Latter Day Saints. These warehouses are all over the country. Begin your research here.

The prices are SUPER fair. And they have it all.

No worries fren. Numbers 6:24-26

*** (wanted to bold but mobile won’t let me.)

Ephesians 6:11 - Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 - For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 - Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 - Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 - And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 - Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 - And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 - Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; 19 - And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 - For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Canned foods are always a good bet and although expensive, they're easy to come by for the time being.

I buy bulk whole grain from Azure standard, 25, 30, 50 lbs of kamut, soft wheat, barley, spelt, einkorn and store in Mylar bags w/ Oxygen absorbers sealed in 5/6 gal buckets. I’ve gotten hard red and hard white wheat, powdered milk, rice, beans, and more from The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints AKA LDS provident living distribution. Their prices are the most reasonable last I paid just over $15 for 25lbs of wheat.they also are very into food storage and will help, their Wards have a person dedicated to helping others. After having water and basics like rice, sugar, fats, ghee is good for storage- things that would keep me alive I got more fun things from places like mypatriotsupply.com. My kids love the freeze dried fruits. I’ve got a few buckets of emergency meals from legacy food storage but we never tasted them. More for if we had to leave our home we could grab the buckets and go. They had good reviews and the price was the best the year I bought them. If you don’t have a huge family you probably can get away with just buying stuff like that. We are a family of 8, but I started grinding my own wheat for bread anyway. Azure standard is fantastic for real foods if you’re concerned about what’s in your food. I started my food storage journey 4 years ago and have since gotten into canning my own food and growing my own food. Next investment is a freeze dryer. I buy cows by the half and would like to freeze dry my own meat.
