US government will ban Americans from air travel effective May 2025 unless they have federalized 'Real ID' driver's license
The long-awaited deadline is finally approaching on May 7 and it will disqualify many from boarding commercial airplanes, whether domestic or international flights.
Independent journalist Patrick Webb reports that the US government plans to launch its heavily criticized federal ID program, called Real ID, for domestic air travel on May 7, 2025.

Same here. I'll just add, the passports have the same RFID tracking and more embedded within.
I’ve heard an appropriate number of seconds in a microwave can disable the RFID chips…haven’t researched recently…
I would love to see this. Granted I recall seeking kids destroy their iPhone 6 (IIRC) trying to drill an headphone hole into their phone. Just wondering if those chips would catch fire & burn up in those microwaves?
There is an EU standard for passport chips based on X.509 and I suspect it is a world standard. The front cover of the passport has a symbol to ahow compatibility. You can get Android apps to read the chip and see the certificate data.
Microwave does indeed destroy the chip but not a great benefit because they can still visually read the printed data. Also you cannot use the automatic entry gates and instead have to line up for a real border force person.
I have a RFID blocking passport & credit card holder like this
Passports have printed chevron symbols like this >>>>>>>>> and that area has to be scannned first to get the password to read the chip. So no possibily of anyone sneaking up next to you and grabbing your chip data so no need for RF shielding.
Ha ha. Made in China! Is it trustworthy?
