Elections have always tended to be rigged. When ballots are counted by poll workers, they’re rigged by those who have access / control… i.e. poll workers. Where ballots are counted by computers, they’re rigged by those who control the computers. At least with paper ballots you need a “ground game” as Obama put it. You need tens of thousands across the country, in positions of adequate power, plus enough real ballots to be within striking distance. Electronic / mail voting let’s the results get further and further detached from reality.

Isn't that how we used to do it at the polls? I remember when I was a poll worker, we would count the votes ourselves, and repeat the process until every ballot was accounted for. Sometimes we had to do it over. And then two of us would drive the ballots to the county offices. It could be up to a 16 hour day.

We did this for over a hundred years in the UK, the polls closed at 9PM and the results were known at breakfast time the day after.
