‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Tops $200 Million Domestic, $440 Million Worldwide Box Office
The highest-grossing R-rated movie in history turned out to be Marvel Studio's path back to the top of the box office charts. How long can Deadpool hold on to the crown?
It is woke in its own way.
Remember when superheroes were all aspirational? Motivational? Modern morality tales? And always guaranteed to be family friendly entertainment for all ages?
This era is completely different. The Joker and Harley Quinn are more revered than Batman and Wonder Woman. Deadpool is crass and irreverant. Millions of people thought "Thanos was right" Logan is hailed as the best superhero movie period and it is depressing, nihilist garbage.
I am a superhero guy. I love comics, cartoons, anime, you name it. Yet I do not watch most of these new movies because I know they will not meet my gold standard, Christopher Reeve's Superman.
One set of movies did meet that mark for me and those were the original X-men movies. To this day, I do not understand the hatred for Last Stand. It is a thought provoking and well crafted alternative to the Dark Phoenix saga and if you had named it, "What if the X-Men had never made contact with the Shi'ar?" Maybe comic book nerds might had been more receptive.
"Hold this line" is one of the most poetic and grounded final battles in superhero films and it was at a fraction of the budget used for Endgame's last setpiece. You watch it and it is hard to believe it is a 2005 film. The whole trilogy, honestly, is cerebral yet entertaining and has all the elements of a good Xmen story...
Anyways, rant over
this is deadpool we're talking about. why are you comparing it to superman?
one step at a time
Deadpool isn't and never has been that type of Superhero. He has since his first edition in 1997 been an irreverent, constant fourth wall breaking jester of an anti-hero really. I wouldn't say it's woke at all. It doesn't fit your mold of what a superhero is, that's it.
Just remember: when Shinji caught a glimpse of comatose Asuka's tits in the hospital, he locked the door and jerked off into his own hands while she laid unconscious. Yet I believe you said that Evangelion is the bestest anime evar. I'd say Evangelion is depressing, nihilist garbage too, but that's just my opinion.
I do not think Eva is the greatest but it did mark a shift in the industry, for the better. I would definitely pick Slayers and Utena over It.
Big difference to me is no parents are taking their kids to see End of Eva screenings whereas they absolutely do take them to see Deadpool, either because the kids beg for it or the parents just do not care.
I guess I'm too far detatched from America. I think the last superhero movie I went to see in the theater was Guardians of the Galaxy 1. It was subtitled, which children never go to see. I alone was laughing my ass off as all the cultural jokes went over everyone's head.
Whilst we watch the garbage coming out of the Olympics and the rest of Hollywood this movie which is right out there cleans up. I am sure this offends everyone at some point.
Its very, very wrong on many, many levels but its fantastic to just go switch off laugh at very off lines and watch some great action. Not for those who do not like swearing, sexual innuendo and violence but if you can handle it go, first time I have 100% enjoyed a movie in a long time but then again I am a bit out there.
Given the times and the crap we have had to endure, 10 out of 10 for me.
Wolverine teabags Justine Trud-o. Meh.
I have to go and see it again, the lines and action come so fast its hard to process it all. Never thought I would hear about pegging in a movie.
Deadpool : International Women's Day.
It’s still Disney. Don’t support it, don’t give it any attention. They haven’t changed
Exactly.
Marvell specifically has a bad track record from the covid times:

The swearing needs to go. It's been a script device for the last 25 years, specifically by the 'controllers' of the industry making those foul demonic R 'comedies' by and with the same usual suspects over and over again. 'Music' by people like Travis Scott and Ice Spice can continue to plug that degeneration agenda. Let's start leading in cinema with smart dialogue again, show them we're no longer going to slavishly follow their Cultural Marxist lead.
Don't take them personally, I agree about vulgar language, used to curse like a sailor and have been trying to be more mindful
Same here. It's become so common and it bothers me now. I used to be able to ignore it, but so many people, especially young women, are walking around dropping F bombs and worse every other word. It's so ugly and says something about who you are on the inside. The Cardi Bs of the world have really done a number on culture.
That's the sound of a good percentage of modern minds. Remember in Idiocracy how everyone flocked to see a movie called Ass, and it was just a picture of a guy's ass? We're already there. We've devolved into juvenile cavemen fascinated by body fluids and fart noises.
Cheers to that.
I think the character in the comic is like that.
If that was removed, then the movie would continue the woke shit.
Just saw a Ryan Reynolds clip today getting interviewed by Kelly Ripa and whoever else is with her and he was wearing a pink suit and gushing over having Madonna involved on this movie. Something stinks to me on this one.
The soundtrack in itself was a masterpiece imo.
I look at it as Hollywood refilling it’s coffers so they can afford to put out more crap.
I liked deadpool, at least the first one. However, isn't that the movie that Ryan Reynolds makes some left wing comments, or am I thinking about some other Ryan Reynolds movie? And I wonder whether Reynolds was asking for those lines or those were already part of the script?
You don’t get to be an A list Hollywood actor without toeing the line.
My understanding is he had to fight, and probably make deals on script issues, to get the first deadpool made.
The production of this one has been pretty obvious that Ryan Reynolds has been able to call the shots because he's able to consistently fetch a high ROI when other big names make movies that they'd have been financially better off holding bonds for the duration of production.
So that's why my local newspapers hated it.
I knew it wouldn't be so woke, because in the shorts of the film there was a dialogue that mentioned the messiah and Jesus.
Today to say that in shitty Disney where everyone is Jewish is a hard blow to them.
