Hi there. I’ve been on this board for several years, but only occasionally post. I wasn’t sure where to put this post, so if this is the wrong place for it and needs to be moved somewhere else, I apologize.
I need a new job. Badly.
I’ve been with my current company for a couple of years. It’s a very small local company. Things started off fine, but earlier this year, ownership began rolling out changes that had a negative financial impact on me.
I’m in a revenue generation type role, so driving results is absolutely key to survival. Problem is - things have been soft financially since early this year and sales have really dried up in the industries I serve. I’m seeing lots of Fortune 500 companies slashing budgets, doing rounds of layoffs, and tightening the belt fiscally, only focusing on the most tactical things possible and trying to do more with their internal staff (rather than hiring from the outside from companies like this one).
At this point, I’ve probably got about two months of runway at the company before things go belly-up. If I’m being honest, it’s a horrible place to work and I’ve lost so much sleep over my job since the beginning of the year. As much as I’ve tried not to let it get to me, it’s dashed my confidence in a big way.
I’ve been looking around within my own network and applying for various job postings online since the beginning of the year - have had a couple of interviews based on my own personal network, but nothing has come through yet. (I’m also convinced that many of the jobs posted online aren’t real. Suspect that many companies are just proactively filling their recruitment pipelines to prepare for whenever the job market starts to bounce back.)
If you’re the praying sort, please pray for me and my family. This recent experience has really crushed my sense of self-worth, as much as I’m trying not to let it get to me. Pray that I find a new role with the right company where I can support my family, flourish professionally, and bless/help others wherever I can along the way.
TLDR: I’m in a really crummy work situation and trying to find a new job. Current employer is asshoe. Please pray for me and my family - that I find a new job with a company and management team that’s a better fit for me.
Thank you, frens. Really appreciate all this board does and what it represents.
Edit: Oh man! Didn’t realize this post had been elevated. Mods, thank you so much for the sticky!
Heavenly Father, We pray for PatrickDuffyLeg to find the job he needs to fulfill his needs and the needs of his family and what it takes to provide for them. Help him so that he doesn't lose any sleep Lord and free him from the distress he is suffering. Do not let worry take a toll on him. We know you have a good place for him where he will feel welcome and perform the tasks set out for him. Lord we pray for others who are in this same predicament as this world is going through turmoil. We pray hope, happiness and blessings for all people at this time. Again Lord, we thank you and bless you for all things given and provided as we ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV "For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
I pray this verse gives you the hope and faith you need while you await the great blessing from all of our prayers. God bless.
Thank you!
You're welcome. God even feeds the birds of the air, he will not forget you my friend.
Amen!!
Amen.
Amen
Bless you Mary, you're such an encourager.
I agree! Mary blesses us all!
That's what God wants us to do. Pray for and encourage one another. We all need help from each other once in a while. That's what we're here for. God bless you too my friend.
Praying for you and your family.
Thank you, fren. It’s been a long eight months. I will keep the board updated as things unfold.

Praying for you and your family PDL! 🙏
Please check Manpower or other temp agencies. Most companies now hire thru them to check out employees before they hire them on as permanent. They can offer a wide variety of opportunities and you may find a perfect fit. If not, it will be a placeholder until POTUS is back officially in January when job opportunities will explode!
Blessings! 🤍
You and your family are on my prayer list. This reminds me of something that happened to me several years ago. I was working at a place, in a technical field, that was low morale and bad work conditions, but I didn't realize HOW bad it was until another round of layoffs cost me that job.
I too looked around and found something in the same field but in a very different venue. It took a few months for the job to materialize, but I got an offer that I simply could not turn down. I could not believe how much different the new place was! It turned out to be the best job I'd ever had in my life... intellectually challenging, working with brilliant and highly motivated people, with a benefits package that was pure gold. It made me realize what a blessing it was to have lost that other job.
I pray that you have a similar experience, and that you find the work of your dreams.
I agree without reservation. I have been at abusive jobs, and can't imagine leaving the job I have now. Who you work for, is probably the most important part of any job. You will spend more time with your co-workers than you do with your family.
Ideally, you have great teammates, that support you at work; and everyone succeeds together.
I hear you fren - I know the revenue generation game very well and it is getting very scary out there. Mine currently is a "nice to have" industry. Our territory is not too bad, but definitely slow. Others are getting only a couple of appointments per week. You can't live on that. I interviewed when a recruiter reached out to me recently in my old industry (financial services) but it is quite interesting how everyone wants you to bring a book - no organic growth at all. I blame private equity which is pervasive in many sectors now. It's all about rhe EBITDA. Customers are a distant second and employees are waaay down the list.
And the false job postings- oh yeah. And internal hires do get preference. Which I get, but after awhile, it is a little soul sucking to repeatedly get to the final round and it fizzles out. I stopped telling people that I was interviewing. (I was out 18 months before I landed my current gig.)
Praying for you and your family.. Hang in there!
Oh, absolutely! I’ve seen first hand at another company how private equity can screw over a company.
I used to work in financial services (around 6-7 years ago). Shifted industries around the time Trump’s administration was forming up — which was a great time to pivot industries and try something different.
I’ve had customers at F500 firms tell me within this month, “We’re not allowed to take on any new or strategic initiatives on account of the election being so close.” Seems like a lot of big companies are taking the wait and see approach as November draws nearer.
saying prayers for you and your family. God bless fren and keep the faith. God loves you more than you know and He will keep His word to you.
Sending prayers and aloha to you and your ohana. God, please help provide security, peace, and comfort to u/patrickduffyleg, and guide him into a role where he can do the best and ultimate good for him and his family, according to your divine will. I ask this in Yeshua's name. Amene.
Dear PatrickDuffyLeg: you and all the anons on GAW are fulfilling this scripture. We pray because we know He is faithful. We are in agreement with your request before the Lord and that He will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Phil. 4:6,7
Amen!
I know God will present you with a new job. Make sure you give 10% of your paychecks to charity and organizations that promote the Gospel.
Prayers on the way fren. Stay strong.
After we win the election, things will get better for everyone.
Praying you get a better job, PatrickDuffyLeg. Don't know where you live but my son was in a similar position to yours. He got a job with a small-med company that sells oil/gas. He has been going gangbusters and the demand is crazy.
If your talents are seasoned and revenue generation is something at which you excel, it sounds like it is time to go into business for yourself, do what you do best, and sell your skills-set like you do now.
I’m in central Florida.
I am in Connecticut. Went into business for myself ~ 29 years ago. Married, homeowner with 4 kids. Never looked back. > $1MM sales last year, will be same this year, 2 person S-corp (wife is business partner). Do what you do well, and success will find you.
I definitely know the feeling! I spent the last 10 months struggling at a new job due to some physical issues I developed while there, and finally was able to get a new job where I'm not hurting myself every day. I asked for prayers here and I think they were answered!
Praying for you!
Thank you!
Prayers up. My employer is also asshoe kek
LORD I come to you asking thay You provide everything PDL needs in his life. Your provision is plentiful and your diligence is unmatched. You know exactly what he needs LORD, I pray you bless the portion you provide. Let your Holy Spirit transform his and his family's lives in radical ways that are needed Father. Encourage, rebuke, discipline, and grow in faith your son PDL. Holy Spirit remind us all of our great need for Jesus and help us all to surrender it ALL to follow where He leads. We thabk you for your love and grace and pray all would know it.
Dear Lord God; Please help PatrickDuffyLeg to find a job that is uplifting and a welcoming place to work. We ask that You would bless this man and his family. Pleas carry them until You deliver him out of this place. Thank You for all You do for us. In Jesus’ name we ask these things. Amen.
Dust off and update that resume'.
I would also suggest using AI (ie. ChatGPT or other) to word smith your responsibly and job description portion. Start off with a description of what you did, then ask GPT to make that paragraph more professional for a resume'.
You will be surprised at the results, copy/paste it; modify it as you wish. Don't give the AI any personal information - but I have seen it do remarkable work in making a Experience Section on the resume' look really great.
Any moron can reject a resume', the goal is to make it past the low level screenings, and get it to someone who is a decision maker.
This I have asked this Father in Jesus precious name; So Be it! Amen.
Are you serious. I thought this board was the Great Awakening, not help me find a job.
Anons help anons.
Always.
