God knows how many rural Ranches, Farms and Properties there were squirreled away down gravel and dirt roads. It might be weeks till they get remembered if they had no family out of state to report them missing and out of contact.
I prey many of these mountain folks will be found, they know how to live off the land and take care of each other, that's why they choose to live there.

Raxlore, I am sorry that you're experiencing this. It's heartbreaking, surreal and devastating. I went through the worst of Katrina. I was safe but lost everything, which can be replaced whereas lives cannot. I can't personally help at the moment, but when things settle a bit, please reach out.
I’m heading out tomorrow to caravan supplies from central NC. I think if you’re not physically able then just search out churches in the surrounding areas that might be putting together supply runs and donate to those. Every little bit helps
If you're in GA, I think many small airports need help loading supplies onto planes/helos to fly into the disaster areas. Many here in Central nc have been begging for help. I'm heading out super early Sunday morning and taking supplies and a team to help with clean up and whatever we can.
I don't think the winds ever got bad enough to call it class 5. The rain and the terrain was the real issue with Helene. These areas already had 2-3 days of rain before Helene came ashore, then were inundated with 10-30 inches of rain in such a short time. Top that off with the funneling effect of the mountains.

Was hurricane Helene a class 5 hurricane?

In hearing 15k to 30k deceased between NC and TN. I i hope that is very incorrect, but that area was home to an estomated 3/4 of a million people. .
Many will never be found. They're in pieces in lakes and rivers. Zero downstream water is safe.
