I had to move to Toronto for six weeks when I was expanding my business and opening different offices. I was told before I got there that the people I'd be working with were considered far right in Canada.
These people were all basic NYC Lefties, but they liked Trump. They still wanted communism, but they liked how Trump did things. It was bizarre.

I think he's using his "art of the deal" strategy, where you propose something totally undoable, but eventually getting what you want because you are then considered to be backing down from your initial "offer".
