I've had ALL elected officials in my prayers for many months! We may not like the crooked politicians, but we certainly don't want some nutjob doing something to them either. (we want legal proceedings taken against them!)

Using historical context, I'm going to firmly disagree with you. Imagine if our founding fathers had said "no guys, we need to do this through the courts, or we're no better than...".
You've been conditioned to following the rules that somebody has determined on your behalf. While not all rules are bad, and while rules are necessary for society to function, no real change or revolution happens in a courtroom. Revolutionary change is in fact, illegal.
