I would like to comment here but, sadly, my country no longer exists!
In a 1971 speech, Paul Ehrlich predicted that: "By the year 2000 the United Kingdom will be simply a small group of impoverished islands, inhabited by some 70 million hungry people." ... "If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000."
These always make a good read:
18 Spectacularly Wrong Predictions Made Around the Time of the First Earth Day In 1970
The first time I ever heard about the effects of CO2 in the atmosphere it was a science program on the radio. The scientists knew it was a major issue but he did not know at that time whether the CO2 would keep the heat in or out.
Many years later, another scientists showed the forecast from a climate model on the TV. Most of Europe had become desert so we all needed to worry. The interviewer asked the scientist what the model said Europe was like now and he said it was a desert now as well! Sometimes, you think there is a lot of guesswork at play in this subject area.
When I was in elementary school in the late 60s and early 70s we had these things called SRS Readers. They were about 10 page long short stories, color coded by topics, and we would have to do a short report on one every week. They were filled with stories on pollution and the coming ice age, overpopulation and mass starvation.
My Dad read one of my reports and was PISSED. He went to the school (private Catholic school) and had them removed from the curriculum for the next school year.
Ya they werent all as dystopian as I made it seem but Im sure it was nearly all propaganda bullshit. It shows how long this grooming of children has been going on and how active its been.
You are the first person Ive run across that remember these. Did you go to a private school too?

I'd like to read your post, but I died in the early 1970s from the Silent Spring.
I'd like to read it as well, but my eyes were burned out by acid rain.
And then came the Chocolate Rain.
And the lamentation of the women.
And then came Purple Rain. And Prince was forced to change his name into an unintelligible symbol.
I want the mini ice age - still waiting lol
Read the original earth day transcripts.
.... "by the year 2000 earth will have cooled by a minimum of 11° and heading to a new iceage"
Idiots didn't realize that if cold was coming the people would demand coal, oil, gas. Thus the change to heating planet.
Yes, cooling was quite popular in the 1970s.
And it is all forgotten about now.

That was back when they thought "global cooling" was going to wipe everyone out :)
