They're right, though. The onus is on the govt to prove they're illegal. How would any of us like it if we're sitting around somewhere when ICE shows up asking us for proof were American citizens? I know I'd be a heeliva a lot more vocally forceful with anyone questioning me about my legitimacy as a citizen.
Most illegals will bolt as soon as they see a badge and uniform. If they don't bolt, it's usually because they're legitimate. Not always but usually. However, to do a targeted raid, these asshats need to make sure they have their intel correct.
I'm not sure. I haven't paid attention since, but when I got my first license, I signed a paper that said I was required by law to provide the document upon request of any law enforcement officer or it would be revoked. Every license since, I've signed paperwork to get it.
I could see sanctuary states ending this practice, though.
My husband gets angry when I ride my bike or go out without my ID.
It's for safety in case something happened and I was taken to a hospital. They could look me up and see that I have insurance.
Hear that Canada 'as a 51st state'!
Probably the real reason for their attitude these 'daze'. They will have to be rolled over paying into another crappy healthcare system they never had to pay for before! I am waiting for this conversation.
Off subject…..I used to travel a lot and flew (minimum) 4 different planes each week. I was always worried about losing my driver’s license, I got a state ID and carried it in a lanyard around my neck. I had a few other things in that lanyard as well - couple bucks, ticket stubs, receipts. I didn’t worry about my driver’s license anymore. It was just a part of my ‘traveling uniform’ so to speak. I kept it on a hook near the door or in the pocket of my coat.
Very true. Americans are sovereign, or at least that's the way it started, and still was when I was a kid. We have no national ID. Tell anyone who asks for a SSN to F off.
Well that was rather anticlimactic. Not so much a "raid" as an embarrassing moment. But maybe by getting photos of the suspects, they were gathering intel for future raids.
He’s right. They need to follow protocols which protect real citizens 4th amendment rights. What we don’t want to happen is that legal immigrants and us citizens get harassed and forced to identify to law enforcement without probable cause.
Just from the inflection in their speech, I would say anchor babies. They've been here a while, but ICE should focus on finding the parents. The parents probably speak very little English.
Ive worked with tons and tons of Hispanic people, legal and not. It's an extremely low IQ peasant culture. These people are obligated to give ICE trouble, their culture and pride dictates it. I've seen some of these people take the high road to their deaths so to speak. They would rather let themselves look like fools to save the prides.
I am floored by your statement. I am a WASP going back to the founding of our great nation. My hispanic husband's family beat my family to the New World by at least 100 years. I am surrounded by high iq hard-working family. Yes, a few are idiots but that is with all cultures. It is so wrong to lump all people of one culture as all being stupid or arrogant. My husband's father was severely injured in WWII. His great uncle fought for the Union. His brother, niece, and lots of nephews serve or served in the military
You're speaking of a WHOLE different generation of immigrant. People in general were worth a lot more back then. But even still, the Mexican culture sucks. We built a wall to keep bad ideas on the OTHER side. Take a ride in construction or agriculture and you'll know what i mean. I stand by it.
All adult people in this country that are not illegal should possess an ID card from the DMV or a driver's license. With birth certificates required to obtain either one. Someone asks for proof you are a citizen. Show the card. Is that so complicated?

I always used my passport for ID because I was concerned about losing my drivers' license and not being able to rent a car.
Good idea. I mostly flew around Alaska.

Ummmm No thats not how it works. We have no record if they are ILLEGAL..it IS up to them to show their legalness.
I don't mind if ICE asked me for my paper. Might not be with me right there but I certainly wouldn't mind.
It’s a fine line, but these cocky bastards infuriate me, if they were really concerned about “their” country, they would cooperate.
If they don’t want to show ID, just politely decline, don’t sit there laughing and acting like a hard man/ childish fool.
ICE are obviously following a tip off.
I would. If ICE asked me, I pulled my ID out.
Well that was rather anticlimactic. Not so much a "raid" as an embarrassing moment. But maybe by getting photos of the suspects, they were gathering intel for future raids.
Sure hope so.
The ice officers should be allowed to make examples out of these guys
We still have laws in the land but I would pull out my paper
Demanding to see your papers sounds a bit Nazi to me.
So they should've just apprehended them all and deported them?
Then let them show they're legal citizens upon re-entry to the USA?...
He’s right. They need to follow protocols which protect real citizens 4th amendment rights. What we don’t want to happen is that legal immigrants and us citizens get harassed and forced to identify to law enforcement without probable cause.
You are describing a totalitarian system where the people have no inalienable rights.
I know it does but this is a war right now.
Just from the inflection in their speech, I would say anchor babies. They've been here a while, but ICE should focus on finding the parents. The parents probably speak very little English.
It's hard to know. I would cooperate.

Oh. I understand.

There is a sizeable group that does not recognize the statues that force us to have a driver's license. They are as patriotic as they come.
No. I would be happy to help out ICE
Arrest them and toss them in a holding cell til they prove they're Americans.
I would.
DNA testing ftw.
I would love to see DNA testing.
Only an oath breaking pig of a human would even ask a law abiding man for his personal proof of identify and only an idiot would give it. lol
They are right.
