This will have the added effect of forestry management to reduce fire danger as well as funding the planning and planting of new groves.
Not many understand that most of the lumber these days comes from sustainable forests, grown specifically to be harvested, and they're continuously replenished with new trees. Rinse and repeat.
That's not to say no old growth is harvested, because some trees have a limited lifespan, can become standing dead due to insect infestation or disease and just leaving them (where they'd eventually just be a fire hazard) would be a waste.
In Ireland we have a crazy situation due to green loonies. First you need permission to plant forrestry, then once it matures you need permission to cut it down.
But you get grants to plant native trees on land (preferably farm land), but you can’t go near it, it’s now a wildlife sanctuary and you have no rights.
I want to tell you about what I have seen from the NW and now here in the south. Pacific NW locked down all their forests and you cannot use any machinery in the forests. Do you know what I have seen? Dead forests completely white and burned (like ghost forests) everywhere I went because they won't let you harvest anything there because of the environmental activists. Unfortunately, I was one of them due to the inspiration from Gore.
Here in TX and AR and KY, do you know how beautiful the forests are? Here they can harvest and use fire to control the fuel. The forests are clear of brush and so the fire won't just become this inferno like the west. You want to see wildlife and beauty, TX. You get over run by birds. In AR, you get over run by deer.
That's just what I have seen from 2000 miles away. I used to live in OR and WA.
In South Dakota most of the Black Hills are managed by the state. They do selective cutting and it’s Beautiful and looks like it would be way less susceptible to fire. In the Pacific Northwest the Forest Service is just left alone and becomes a sitting tinder box. Some selective cutting and removal of deadfall would definitely be helpful in my opinion.
Pacific NW and California are all tinder boxes. Everything needs to be maintained including forests. You can't just leave it alone and decide not to touch it.
Thanks for that. I really hope it's good in both ways. Not just a clear cutting to spite environments. Forests can definitely be preserved and harvested at the same time so hopefully this is how it works.
My grandfather was a forester. His rule was cutting only 10” or better. No clear cutting and he monitored the timber cutters be marking the trees and measuring the stumps. My personal opinion is that clear cutting could result in environmental damage. Responsible management is the way.
Old growth forest are minimal and don't need to be touched. Thr average age of a tree harvested is 20 years. We have 60 million acres of of trees in that category if not more. Reforestation is a huge part of anybody using the replenishable tree. Currently paper companies have huge swatches of forest all growing areas apart. Over 35 years of practice there is always an area being replanted and being harvested. It sure makes wiping one's tender hind parts much easier letting them do so. After all, if people arenok deforesting canada so they can pay double for their house then they've no arguement for us cutting our own forest for lumber.
I get the general gist of the paper and lumber industry. I understand that these companies plant to re-harvest. I'm guessing they always had access to their 30 year forests. Was just wondering what the decree is allowing since some were previously off limits.
I dont know if they'll allow it now? Hope not. Seems the old growth should be left alone as you say. But so much harvestable lumber is left in the forest to die off or burn. Probably could get 5 years worth of lumber from just removing recently dead but not yet rotten trees.
My Dad set aside 40 acres that he planted in a forest for future kids to enjoy. He spent hours and much money on managing his forest. He was honored by the county for doing this.
He also burned wood. Two of his three kids burn wood.
I have a 16x40 deck on my house. It’s 25 years old and although it’s still stable it needs to be repaired. The estimate was $10k to do so. My son has multi level deck on his house. It’s in worse shape than mine. Kinda of shaking when you walk on it. His estimate was $40k.
When wood started going up I decided to wait on my repairs and my son can’t afford his.
Point being, when Americans can’t afford to maintain our homes what happens? Years pass and the situation worsen and homes degrade. Our neighborhoods look worse and worse and become a magnet for the dregs of society.,
I was praying Trump would fix this. This helps us all not just those looking to have a safe deck!
I’m hoping! I have a very handy son, a brother that has promised to help and access to some Amish that built it originally. I just need the money and wood to be at a cost I can afford.
Speaking of wood and lumber, here's a documentary on the coolest pre-fab house ever, made entirely of wood. Not affordable but wood is amazing. It's about 50 minutes long.
Lets not just give away Forestry Lumber. You want to SELL the lumber and then you want to have commitments to REPLANT. Sustainable and environmentally responsible.
It's called sustainablity. You cannot just take and not replant. It's 100% vital. I also would like to see selective harvesting instead of clear cutting.
So nice to hear. Looking to sell this large home and downsize and wanted to build a smaller ranch home in another area near better medical facilities with features we already have in this home.
Found an area we liked and have been holding off to build for now due to high cost of building and the seller's market collapsed here over the past couple of years. Especially for homes my size. If building is cheaper we can let this home go for less money.
Timber prices are so low right now that loggers can't do it at a profit. I have 10 acres of planted pines that weren't thinned out as they grew. Storms keep knocking them down. It's going to cost me $15-20k to get them logged. Stumps will still be here.
Great news!

Amen.
can become standing dead . Chip'm & ship'm
Once it’s not native wildlife forest.

The net result is 99% of timber is imported.
They completely wiped out 99% of Ireland's woodlands...
I was struck by the absence of trees when I visited.
That was the brits, they cut them down for their naval ships.
The Spanish did the same back in the day.
So what you're saying is, you have new trees for our masts?
Have you seen the British navy recently, it’s pitiful.
That's absolutely nut to have that many restrictions.
Yeah really retarded... Especially if it's on YOUR property and YOU planted them.
Doesn't seem too far removed from "the king owns all the trees" etc
Exactly.
This might be good and all but let's not get carried away. Old growth forests are irreplaceable and their benefits are many.
Don't know which forests Trump is using.
Spain apparently used to be more forested in parts and they cut it all down to build the armada.

I like it. Thanks.
I would hope for sustainability. If you just cut w/o replenishing, it's one time only and then all gone.

Personally I'd like to know that he's also protecting & growingforests too. I hate seeing consumption destroy forests.

If we don't have to pay taxes, you would have enough to repair. I am sure. Learning how to do some of the repair helps also. I have to learn.
I’m hoping! I have a very handy son, a brother that has promised to help and access to some Amish that built it originally. I just need the money and wood to be at a cost I can afford.
Call in the favor. I do it all the time.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yrI4ykDSjiQ
It's about Austrian forester Erwin Thoma and his rediscovey of proper wood harvesting techniques and the houses he builds with them.
Thank you.

When it comes to making money on a crop like lumber I k ow tjey take great care to replant responsibly. Their pocket book depends on it.
Start in California since it's just gonna burn there anyway.
Howls. True.
Guess we dont need Canadastan after all. Who knew?
Nope.
More C02, more trees, though I wish we’d use hemp for clothes and other products, fast growing and bio degradable
Hemp is good.

We are not the greedy ass type who just wanted to have the biggest house and just sucked off from the government.

Can you cut them for firewood? I have neighbors who logged and cut for firewood. Young dudes in their 20. So talented.
Timber prices low? Not where I live. Raw timber is not too bad but after it's milled boom.
