I feel like this whole handmaids tale role-play thing they do to "protest" the right (signified by the bonnets) is some sort of weird sexual fantasy. Like no, no one, wants to enslave and impregnate the crazy lib women.
I had to read the original book for a college class. It was so-so. But an important point was that fertility had been compromised worldwide, so that anyone with a fertile body was highly valued, as without them your family line would die out. Many women do a psycho-cosplay that they're valued like that, even though our world is far better than what's in their heads.
Yeah, I'm actually a Margaret Atwood fan and I totally agree with your description of the book. Her more recent series, Year of the Flood, is a much more salient critique of our own age (there is a dystopian drug that is supposed to be a panacea but it kills everyone, pharmaceutical companies develop the diseases they are supposed to cure, and everything is owned by by multinational corporations).
I think you are right, for many of the sad lonely lib women, it's a narcissistic cosplay fantasy that they could be SO WANTED by those bad, bad men.
At first I thought they were protesting the deportations and wouldn’t go back to whatever country they came from but after I looked it up the women’s march website said they wouldn’t go back to being the 1950s housewife, abortion in alleyways, cooking was also mentioned. 😂
You mean they won't go back to a time when a family could live on one income, with a nice house and car? And they didn't have to go to be a wage slave and put their kids into the hands of minimum-wage day care hires? And got to experiment with recipes, and spend time with their OWN kids, and coffee-klatsch with the other moms?
I would like to volunteer to go back. Back to motherhood as a recognized worthy vocation in life. Back to life before the devaluation of wages to the option of one income households. Back to not working 60 hours a week THEN trying to manage a household. Back to raising children woman gave birth to instead of waving bye bye at daycare and school and being to exhausted to enjoy them when we do get to see them. I want to go back to clothes that are made for women and not men with boobs and I REALLY want to go back to the word woman not having an add on to clarify it and people pretending they don’t know what the word standing alone means.
The women's movement has been taken over by transsexuals.

"bonnets, which looked like they had gone back"
And they willingly put on these garments!
Besides, won't go back to WHAT??

HOW HORRIBLE that would be?!?
Sounds like living the dream to me, but we wouldn’t want that!
Somebody is making dinner every night js

Exactly!
What do they have going on in their lives that's so great?
They look angry and unhealthy.
But they know how to sing on cue....
I wonder how much these rallies cost?
I was wondering who sewed all the prairie bonnets too! 😁
More proof that even they don’t know what the heck they are talking about.
These people pretend to be oppressed!
