I ran a very successful online business that was royally fucked over by Google's Panda and Penguin algorithm changes in 2010. This was the end of "Do no evil" and the beginning of "Pay to Play". It was devasating losing half of our traffic overnight. Within a year I had to lay off my one employee. By 2014 I had to lay myself off. I am certain that they destroyed thousands of businesses like mine by rigging search.
Fuck you Google, Die in a Fire like Hillary.

Similar here. I get almost no search engine traffic to my site since I don't (won't) pay for adwords.
Right there with you, I lost 2 income producing sites. I was never able to recover the rankings. Still mad.
I spent about $10-15,000 trying to get my traffic back. It was an impossible, losing battle going against big tech like Amazon. Amazon was getting #1 or #2 in results that only I carried. It was a rigged search game and still is.
So now we all understand why no one should NEVER do an Internet search for ANYTHING using Google because, obviously, Google cannot trusted to tell us the truth after reading that article.

I've worked in ad tech for years. For the reach you get Google is too big. It also is piss poor at data values returned. Companies like appnexus can give you exact impression (views), clicks and conversion figures that rarely change, and filter out fraud automatically. Google? You have to wait 3 days for their data to stabilise, and even then they often changed results a week later with statistical significance.
their estimates on volume are equally bad. There is so little confidence in the results where I've worked that many came up with their own algos to managed the algo generated data from Google. I can only guess it is even worse for seo and sem peeps, as dozens of companies exist just to facilitate reporting and support on this.
