70% of India has power outage as Pakistan launches cyberattack In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, nearly 70% of India's national power grid was reportedly disabled on Friday following a massive and coordinated cyberattack, according to Indian media and defense sources.
Emergency protocols were activated, with the Indian Ministry of Power urging citizens to remain calm.
The unprecedented digital assault came within hours of Pakistan's announcement of a new nationwide military campaign --- Operation Bunyān-um-Marsūs — aimed at countering terrorism and ensuring internal security amid growing border hostilities.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation, named after the Quranic term meaning "a solid wall," reflects Pakistan’s determination to build an unbreakable defense against extremist threats and external aggression.
"The initiative will prioritise intelligence-based operations, border security enhancement, and dismantling of militant infrastructure within Pakistan," a security official told Dawn on condition of anonymity. "This operation is a continuation of Pakistan’s resolve for internal stability and territorial sovereignty."
Missile Strikes Deepen Escalation
Later in the day, regional tensions took a sharp military turn. Security sources confirmed that Pakistan had launched a limited-range missile counterstrike targeting military installations inside India, following what Islamabad described as "India’s recent barrage of unprovoked attacks."
According to initial reports, at least three domestically developed ‘Fatah-II’ missiles were launched at strategic targets across the Indian border. One confirmed strike hit an alleged BrahMos missile storage facility near Beas in the Indian state of Punjab, inflicting considerable damage.
There has been no official response from the Indian Ministry of Defence regarding the missile attacks or the status of the damaged sites. However, high-level security meetings were reportedly convened in New Delhi late Friday evening to assess the situation.
Diplomatic Channels on Alert
The sudden escalation has prompted concerns from global powers, with early calls for restraint being issued by diplomatic missions in both capitals. Analysts have expressed alarm over the dual-use nature of the cyberattack and missile retaliation, noting the potential for further destabilization in an already volatile region.
“The disruption of India’s grid is unprecedented and hints at a level of cyber warfare not previously seen in South Asia,” said Brig (retd) Salman Shah, a defense analyst. “The cyber domain is now fully entangled with kinetic warfare. This has deep implications for regional security.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad said it remains committed to defending Pakistan’s national interests and security. “Operation Bunyān-um-Marsūs is not just about military retaliation,” a spokesperson said. “It’s about long-term national resilience against all forms of threat.”

I guess the scam calls will decrease to some extent for the time being
This was the comment I was looking for.
Government ships in 10,000 new extension cords.
This doesn’t make sense, we were led to believe that indians are the most tech savvy saars on the planet.
I would say the poo is about to hit the fan, but they don’t need a fan.
Fake news. I am an Indian living in India, and there's no power outage here. Samaa TV is Pakistani.

I keep asking this: why the fuck is the grid connected to the internet?
Why is India connected to the internet is the biggest question.
...guess who is coming to dinner?
I don't know, I can't see anything. 😮

...doggy winks...
Based on their electrical infrastructure, 70% should be the norm
We NEED on ground footage! Starlink GET IN THERE!
Knocking out the power is as bad as bombing them.
Firstly for proof. Years of ukraine trained me that haha
I told the Generals at the time (late ‘90s) that they should keep an eye on India and Pakistan because they could be the first nuclear exchange of weapons.
Then the shit will definitely be hitting the atmospheric fan .
But we all get to watch and little of value will be lost.
It's funny to see all the Porkistan propaganda everywhere.
There are even Pakis who claim Pakistan "won" the war, because they begged Trump to ask India for a ceasefire.
I hope India completely demolishes Pakistan. It is a failed state with over 60 internationally recognized terrorist organizations.
Better send all our h1b’s to sort it out
2 days and 70% of India has no power; 3 years and Kiev earth cams still working! Make this make sense! Nothing is what it seems!.
A lot of their infrastructure was inherited from the British Empire, a large portion of which has neither been maintained or upgraded.
Hopefully the sanitation systems are still working so they don't have to shit in the streets.
They use the Ganges River for that & sometimes bodies.
It will continue to work as long as there is gravity present
That would be a typical day.
I just widh they would both stop
They have been fighting since 1947-48.
It's time to STOP
this goes to show that we should absolutely not be using networked digital infrastructure. All the power grid needs to be on closed systems with as much analog as possible
