I agree, its a tired argument, repeated for years. I'm still of the mind that inmates should do farm labor, not just as a job but for life coaching. The forced labor talks don't phase me. The prison system creates more criminals and more lazy people, generally speaking. Throw them in the fields. Its a win win.
As I recall Bukele (sp) in El Salvador has similar programs set up in the prisons.
So does Ibrahim Traore in Burkina Faso - and it is working well.
There is a guy at my local Publix who is completely blind there everyday and another with downs syndrome working their ass off. Much respect.
I used to work with preschoolers and toddlers in the inner city as a traveling therapist and there were some that really knew how to milk the system. One lady whose son I saw wasn't married bc she made out better without being married. Instead she got some money from her son's dad whom she still saw on a regular basis. He would give her money from his job on top of her welfare money. She had other people living in her home with some sleeping on couches and I assumed they were giving her money, also to stay there.
She took a part time job working from home that she told me she couldn't report to the welfare office bc she would have to report her income and it would affect the money she would get from welfare.
She had a number of designer handbags and other things that one wouldn't expect a welfare person would own.
I remember going into another home to see a child there and everyone was on welfare in the home. They had the newest large screen TV I had ever seen (this was when they first came out). It took up their entire living room area. I was surprised they could have afforded it bc they were very expensive at that time.
Always the case with most of these parasites.
Hopefully some if not all of these individuals can find their way to good paying jobs.
With the expected flood of manufacturing jobs returning back into our country, I hope they can find good employment and lift themselves out of poverty.

As an elementary school teacher, I have seen kids not understand that everyone doesn't just get SNAP. They were confused when I talked about budgets, food choices etc... The worst example was a parent who refused to pay for a field trip (2.00) because they were on welfare. She demanded that the school pay her sons way. I paid for him. Then she sent him with 20.00 spending money...

I think food stamps should go back to how it used to be. Instead of providing credit cards to shop for junk food at the grocery store, just provide very basic staple foods for people to survive.
That way it provides motivation to get their ass off food stamps.
The concept of food welfare goes all the way back to the Roman days. They never mention it, but it was corrupt political power buying back then, just as it is now.

The food stamp program was started as a boost for farmers. It grew into something altogether different.
Except the system we live in is built on processed and packaged foods. Complete with man-made chemicals. So food stamps buying junk food is by design.
