The same is true for our reps here in Oklahoma, they only get full pay when the state house or senate is in session. And that is only a few months a year.
I don't know why each of the 50 States do not maintain "State Houses" for each/every/all of their Senators/Representatives, so that their duly-elected do not have to spend out-of-pocket for housing in a strange swamp Washington, D.C....
Allowing these swamp creatures the ability to give themselves pay raises isn't [their] fault, it was The People's fault for allowing it. [their] votes are public record, yet The People have continually voted for creatures who are known to only work at the behest of the el'ites. This shows [them] that The People don't care enough about the country's well-being. And now it is impossible for The People to reverse this particular issue due to the rules processes of both Chambers. Hopefully enough of The People are paying close enough attention to Congress and the Senate to start holding [them] accountable, but from where I sit, it looks like that's not the case yet. Still too many RINOs and über Leftists filling both Chambers.
I would support a return to this. Also a repeal of the 17th amendment.
This is much safer snd more “democratic” than a “con-con on term limits” that almost guarantees being hijacked by the Left, restricting the rights of citizens to keep a good representative, and will result in a government run by the bureaucracy.

Then they go back to their regular jobs.
You mean they have work for a living like us. 😮😁
Ditto CA. Except they are there all year. Which is why we have so many BS laws - gotta keep the per diem going.
So, what the fuck happened?
Oh yea, the Federal Reserve Act happened.
Why didn't you just edit your first comment?
"I did not know that."
Congress makes their pennies with salaries.
They make their billions with USAID-kickbacks and insider information.
