Cities and counties all level various forms of taxea including incone and sales. Property taxes stand out as a penalty for possessing sonething. Oyr retired citizens have to keep paying for their home long after its paid off. Its theft.
It would maybe cost close to that much in local tax if the overpaid fluff positions aren't gotten rid of. The point is not simply to eliminate a tax. It's to reduce gov spending. That includes the local level.
So no, 30% would not be needed in local taxes. And, if the fed tax is so great why are there potholes in streets, untrimmed trees hanging in road way, and grass overgrown all over the place? Why do police take so long to respond yet their force is large and basically over staffed?
That's because the home isn't free. It is protected by police, fire, and EMS, who don't work for free. It is served by water and sewage lines which had to be installed by some construction crew and which require maintenance every so many decades as the pipes wear and break. It is served by roads that have to be kept clear of brush, cleaned, paved, lined, have the pot holes repaired, be salted in the winter, plowed when snow falls, etc. As a local citizen, you have to pay your part for local schools, parks, local government services, etc
I have no problem saying there's no "property tax." Claim it's "theft." But the response will be that the city totals up the costs of services it provides to your property and sends you an itemized bill. You still have to pay your share of the costs of living in a civilized society. Freedom isn't free. Prosperity isn't free. Living with first-world accommodations isn't free. All of those things exist because people are employed to provide them. Stop paying and your city will rapidly start looking like a third-world latrine - just like LA and NYC when they stopped picking up the trash.
That's all a small percentage of the tax. A lot more goes to schools so they can indoctrinate children and several other stupid things. The more money any authority has to use the less that gets spent on the sorts of things you mention. As proof, take a drive from a city or state with notoriously high taxes to one with low taxes. Notice the change in the quality of the road after you crossed the line. One would expect the higher tax authority would have better roads but it's almost always the opposite. Check it out & see
You're describing the city. Not everyone lives in the city. County tax in cities should be high to pay for those things if yall think yall need that slow to respond emergency services.
In the country you pull your own weight and don't rely upon others to keep you safe. It's called personal responsibility.
You used that House and Land as COLLATERAL for the Mortgage, so it's IN COMMERCE, aka, a Commercial Property, like a Hotel Room, or a BNB, or even a Store....
It is SEEN AS a Business Location, that's how the Law sees it....
So it's a VALID TAX directly under the U.S. Constitution COMMERCE CLAUSE, and the state Constitution, Commerce clause....
If you have a Problem with that, then YOU need to take the Proper steps to REMOVE your House and Land/s from the Tax Rolls and from being Seen As a Business Property....
It isn't Theft, especially when it's just YOUR MISUNDERSTANDING of the Laws in Effect....
I really don't understand WHY people never stop and THINK about Which Law is being applied to them, and just Knee Jerk Off into False beliefs...
That sounds to me like you are saying the property taxes should much lower. I know fire and police do not work for free, ( and neither do other government employees) but bring the cost of living down and their salaries should make them exist comfortably in whichever state they live in. Take away collective bargaining from government employees-we don't need extra taxes from unelected beauraucrats.
Because the guy living in a mobile home shouldn't have to pay the same costs as the guy living in the cul-de-sac in the gated community in a million dollar house on 2.5 acres. He doesn't use the same amount of services, and he damn well doesn't have the same means to pay. There's a reason we use a progressive income tax system, just as we use differing property values as a proxy for a graduated local tax.
Those expenses would be paid by everyone receiving those services--and they for sure are not funding them properly or providing proper services; not sure how that would manifest but it for sure isn't rocket science. The money that's lavished on the school scam here is outrageous. Town of ~17K, $35M for sucko public fool system. The kids are not being taught to read decently, last I heard. Take away their pot of gold and do what was done in earlier times: when they want money, they must ask the people, with hat in hand. We have absolutely no say in this crap town.
there are other ways to fund city services... look at the breakdown of your property tax bill....a million different kinds of school taxes, ( i have not had kids in school for 20 yrs+) city/county debt( thats right we are covering their screw ups) and a lot of other bullshit for them to waste not just city services, they can find other ways without sticking it on your property. This is their leverage to keep you enslaved. you dont pay they take your property.........forced theft. break a piece off the millions they make from lottery that is supposed to go to schools but is misused also ahhh the old general fund ie the piggy bank....
How do cities pay for service like police, fire or sanitation? Federal taxes and state or local taxes are two separate animals.
Cities and counties all level various forms of taxea including incone and sales. Property taxes stand out as a penalty for possessing sonething. Oyr retired citizens have to keep paying for their home long after its paid off. Its theft.
Income tax is a penalty for being too productive as well.
Limit it to sales tax and special use taxes (e.g. tolls). If the government is made efficient, this would easily be doable.
u/#Correct
When your locality raises its sales tax to 30%, you won't think that sales taxes are such a hot idea.

Cannot rationally answer that one.

Freedom is scary to many.
Renting your property from the government after YOU have paid it off is just wrong.
Unless it's a Business, then it's Right....
And ALL of you are living in a BUSINESS BUILDING....
Your Lands are ALL COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES....
Is it tho???

Why not take the total cost and divide it by the number of residents?
Oh you mean like taxes?

Right now federal money
