Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

Just saw that AOL is (finally) ending their dial-up in September this year. I think this will hit a lot of Boomers and they will end up losing their Internet unless they have a tech-savvy relative that can at least get them on a cell phone. Hopefully we don't lose many here.
Honestly I am surprised they still had it, but a LOT of seniors wanted to keep what they knew how to use. I know my Mom still had AOL email (though she had cable Internet) up until she died last year. I spent a month or 2 going through her 500k+ emails still in her AOL account - getting rid of all the fake political spam asking for donations, all her Fox News/Rumble/Newsmax/etc newsletters, and whittling it down to something I could work with. I was able to get actual emails and contacts so I could archive them and figure out all these friends and family members she talked with that I never met. I'm talking 4th/5th cousins and friends from 50 years ago she met in high school. Amazing.
AOL made it next to impossible to get all of this (especially contacts) but I was able to transfer it to my own IMAPS server (slowly). The contacts had to be pulled individually via browser - they only allow AOL users that pay a premium to download that in bulk. Ultimately I made scripts to print-to-pdf the email on my server, push them to Paperless so the OCR could render them to searchable text, tag them for future searches, and archived them. The searches were important so I could easily find stuff like any paid subscriptions, storage facilities, insurance, and other things I needed right away.
I posted this so people on here can check on their parents/grandparents to make sure they will still be able to get on the Internet after September, and to help them archive stuff before you have to blindly do it yourselves.
It's time this AOL scourge finally dies.
AOL still exist? Wow.. Remember the CDs they used to give away so you can install it on your computer, and that weird sound the device makes to go online- reminded me of alien contacts or something. And don't forget the AOL chat you can talk to your high school friends with. Sure brings back memories!
Speaking of memories, does anyone remember Geocities? And you can learn HTML and build your own webpage? lol
Geocities, Myspace, Prodigy, Compuserve, of course AOL - I used all of them for at least a little bit of time. A friend of mine was a sysadmin at AOL in the mid '90s. He kept putting me on the list to get those stupid discs mailed to me - as a joke. I had nearly 100 at one time. He made up for it by getting me an aol.net (not aol.com) email address while he still worked there.
I once got yelled at by a 2-star General for blocking Compuserve IP addresses from coming into the Pentagon. Turns out he was in Germany on temporary duty and that was how he was logging into our systems. I unblocked him and reported it up the chain so they knew why I unblocked something that shouldn't be. His (4-star) General told me to re-block it. Those were the days.
Oh gosh I remember AOL. It was the first internet we had at my house. Those were the days ❤️
Question on Crypto and Bitcoin Maximalism
It seems like “all-Bitcoin-all-the-time” is probably not the right path, but generally speaking, in the same way it was always recommended to have 5-20% of NW in PMs, is there a recommendation on %NW in Crypto?
Maybe as a percentage of that 5-20%, if not more? It seems like we are out of the “it’s a hedge against inflation” phase and in the “get out of FRN while you can” phase.
I was hoping blockchain and crypto would be discussed more, it seems anons went for plenty of other important GAW topics
Reggie Middleton on youtube recently discussed that who owns certain blockchain patents might be more valuable in some cases compared to owning some cryptos.
2 more thoughts 1) does the cryptos you are interested in have true utility purpose such as being able to do smart contacts - assist with AI projects OR have some future reward potential (maybe DOGE after a Precipice event and rebooting of the economy?). and 2) how will cryptos be valued in a post -Precipice situation — cryptos with utility I would think would have some value regardless of FRNs equivalent value.
I haven’t bought much crypto as I could be wrong but I think based on a Canadian technical analysis guy that cryptos could drop with a stock market correction, but then I think what is equally likely is a Precipice event and I should have gotten some more of the utility cryptos I think are best, even if just. 1% of portfolio
That’s about what I’ve been thinking, thanks!
Reddit is losing its shit right now and I am over here laughing and laughing and trying not to choke on popcorn.
1st rule of Q Club: Never choke on Popcorn.
Matthew 18:20 KJV [20] For where two or more are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Isaiah 40:28-30 KJV [28] Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding. [29] He giveth the power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. [30] Even youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
Can POTUS do something about the inflation? Everything at the grocery store is way too expensive, especially the healthy food like beef and eggs, and especially butter. I used to get Kerry Gold butter because it's the best, really yellow and rich in nutrients but it's way too pricey. I get it he needs to fix immigration and big world war stuff and corruption, but what about basic needs and bills?
I’m a Kerry Gold butter lover too. It’s a shame things are so expensive to eat healthy as possible. My grocery bill alone is 130 a week, and it’s just me. Trust me I do not waste anything. I eat it all. 🥴
Same here. We try to just stick to the minimal and yet never leave the grocery store without burning a hole every time. And the ironic part is even the snacks and junk sections are getting more expensive..it's highway robbery.
P.S Kerry Gold butter is cheaper at Costco if you can get it.
We have a Sam’s here but not a Costco. Sam’s is in town and I do my best to avoid going into town if possible. I shop at Ingles grocery store mainly because of convenience. They are a little more expensive because of the lake area here. By the time I would drive into town I would burn my savings in gas. But yes everything is outrageous now. I think we are all ready for some relief.
The corruption has to be removed before inflation can truly be lowered
I hope so..
Have faith, hold fast, and stay the course.
Thank you. God bless you.
I've been thinking about something that seems more than coincidental, I like to ask questions. When I first heard of the moniker "Big Balls", it was just a teenager thing lol but then when I found out there were possibly hundreds if not thousands of DOGE employees, why was he focused on? Could be just because of the name, but it's almost like the name was done intentionally to get attention. Also, wouldn't they want to keep DOGE employees anonymous. I felt like he's being used as a distraction. Then recently with the attack on him, it again struck me as coincidental. Then I was reading on here about how it works out perfectly, it gave Trump a reason to have the Feds and NG in DC during the congressional hearings and I'm wondering even more if "Big Balls" was brought to the forefront to be used for this moment? But yeah, just found it coincidental, nothing really else
My Sherlock Holmes mind went "there" too.. absolutely just coincidental. Wink wink
I think Trump is good at acting quickly and he is protective of his people. That’s what I voted for, someone that’s “gonna get her done!”
I'm still waiting for himm to take down the FEDS, get rid of income tax, is that going to happen last before he leaves office and then with new admin SHTF again, rinse and repeat?
I'd like to think that all the EOs POTUS signed won't get cancelled out 4 years from now. It's a constant battle every 4 years.
That would be a dream!

I follow both of these. Two great truth tellers. Completely agree it’s about to get crazy good. 🍿

My general chat is, the greatest enemy of The People in all of history is the criminal Lying MSM and they are allowed to LIE 24/7 and are not required to Prove a single lie. The MSM IS Why the The criminals in DC. have been allowed to commit treason for 70 years.
Psalm 103:8-13
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. 9 He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. 10 He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. 13 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
He has showed compassion to me and for that I will forever love and serve him. I’ve watched the Tucker Carlson interview with Jeremiah Johnston several times over. It’s hard to hear, but reminds me of his wonderful compassion and love toward me.
For the grace, for the might of our LORD!
His Grace is Beyond Mercy...✨🙌
