Why is a man who lives Near the CAPITOL keep spelling it Capital? This is the 5th time I have seen it. Yesterday’s post about the clean up is also incorrect. Trump doesn’t make those kinds of mistakes.
The distinction between capital and Capitol hinges on their specific meanings and usage, particularly in the context of Washington, D.C. Here's a more detailed explanation:
Capital (with an "a"): This term refers to the city or primary seat of government for a country or state. Washington, D.C., is the capital of the United States, meaning it’s the city where the federal government’s main operations are based, including the White House, Congress, and the Supreme Court. The term "capital" derives from the Latin caput (head), indicating its role as the "head" or central place of governance. For example, other countries have their own capitals, like Paris for France or Tokyo for Japan. In the U.S., each state also has a capital city, such as Albany for New York or Sacramento for California.
Capitol (with an "o"): This term refers to a specific building, namely the one in Washington, D.C., where the U.S. Congress (the House of Representatives and the Senate) conducts its legislative work. The U.S. Capitol is an iconic structure with its distinctive dome, located on Capitol Hill. The Heisenberg’s The term comes from Capitolium, the name of a temple-crowned hill in ancient Rome, and is used to denote a legislative building. Many U.S. states also have their own "capitol" buildings where state legislatures meet, but the U.S. Capitol is the most famous example.
Key Difference: Washington, D.C., as a city, is the capital of the U.S., serving as the hub of national government. The Capitol is a single, specific government building within that city where Congress meets. The confusion often arises because both terms are associated with government and Washington, D.C., and their spellings are similar.
Historical Context: Washington, D.C., was chosen as the capital in 1800, replacing Philadelphia, as part of a political compromise during the early years of the U.S. The city was designed by Pierre Charles L’Enfant, and the Capitol building, designed by William Thornton and later modified, became the centerpiece of the federal government’s legislative branch. The Capitol’s construction began in 1793, and it has since been expanded and renovated, with its current dome completed in 1866.
Common Usage Errors: People sometimes use "Capitol" when referring to the city, especially in informal contexts, due to the prominence of the Capitol building as a symbol of U.S. governance. However, it’s important to use capital for the city and Capitol for the building to maintain clarity.
Example for Clarity:
Correct: "Washington, D.C., is the capital of the United States."
Correct: "The U.S. Capitol is where Congress meets."
Yeah that seems pretty telling. I won’t get my hopes up for the news to cover it like the boom we hope it is though. If that ever happens it happens but I’m done waiting for it.
FOX will cover all of it and force the other network's hands. Their viewership is like quadruple every other MSM network. I think back to 2020 and how FOX called Arizona or some state at like 0% for Biden and everyone lost their minds, and in the same fashion called PA for Trump in 2024 first and everyone lost their minds. They are a cog in the wheel of the plan.
I mas mugged in my apt parking lot in Alexandria, VA, just a mile or so from the Pentagon where I worked.
Despite being beat over the head with a tire iron and my purse and ids stolen, I was relatively lucky?!? There were rapes and people held up a gun point at the elevators. And it was a nice apartment complex!
That was a long time ago! Bleeding from the head, I ran after the perp car and yelled JUST GIVE ME BACK MY IDS! I heard the passenger say KEEP DRIVING.
I tried to get the license plate, but my glasses had been knocked off . . .
A mile away. That's about the same distance some people walk if they park in the back of one of the Pentagon parking lots just to get to their office inside. At least it seemed like that when I worked there in the early-mid '90s.
The distance was so long that when I had a ruptured Achilles Tendon (and was on crutches) the doctor got me a handicapped parking pass so it only took me about 25 minutes to get in and to my desk.
Sorry about your mugging. I was lucky. I was never mugged in my 5 years at the Pentagon. Someone did try to car-jack me though. I lived in USAF base housing in Landover MD - on the same road as the then "Jack Kent Cook Stadium (Redskins Stadium). The geniuses in charge built 3200 new houses in one of the worst neighborhoods (note the emphasis) around the DC metro area - and did not fence it in. There were constant burglaries, although they never got me. They did hit our neighbors though.
I worked part time at Arlington National Cemetery when I got off work at 3pm from the Pentagon, primarily so I could skip DC traffic. I used to shortcut through Southeast DC to get to Landover (NEVER DO THAT), and ended up getting a red light one night about 930pm (I locked the gates at the Cemetery and went home at 9pm most nights). Some dude came up, tried the door, and put his hands on my window to try to pull it down. I couldn't have a gun there, but I did have a rather large knife in my door - which ended up inches from his eyes. He jumped back and I ran the red light. From then on I took 110 to 495. I was fully prepared to slice his fingers on my window, but fortunately I didn't have to. That would've been a long night at the police station.
Park Fairfax? Lived there when it was still Apts. It was humble but safe in those days. When we were first married, we moved to an apt. On Armistead. Turned into quite an experience. The Roy Roger's killer lived in apartment across the walkway. His balcony right across from our bedroom window. Then the Alexandria parkinglot murderer was the brother of our paperboy. One night we were woken in the early hours by a cop with a dog saying he was chasing a suspect to our door. Nope. Another early morning wake up was two fellows who had taken the large globes off the walkway lights and were lobbing them into our front door. Then there was the night the girls who lived below us invited the whole bar to their place after the bar closed at 2 am.
When our lease was up, we figured out how to buy our first home, during Jimmy Carter's reign at over 10% interest.
Sorry that happened to you. I also lived in Alexandria and you would go from million dollar homes to ghetto slums block to block back and forth, even back in 2003 to 2008 or so. Could only imagine what it's like now.
Or, I should have asked, is Trump talking about globalists and international crimes? If he is liberating DC, kinds sounds like he is eliminating the criminals that have been controlling DC, which would be the Soros type.
AND THOSE WORDS SHOULD BE TAKEN QUITE LITERALLY!!!!!!!!
Mess Around and NOT GET the JOB that you were supposed to do as Police Officers and there will be consequences like: "YOU ARE ALL FIRED" and don't reapply!!!!!!!!
" Liberated" is the key word out of that statement. Liberated means, freed from imprisonment, slavery, or 👉🏼enemy occupation.👈🏼
Ooh, good catch.
11.4?
Was that meant for me? I don't know what you mean
Did anyone notice that news of this comes at the same time Trump gave the greenlight for the military to go after drug cartels?
Prevent 187 of politicians a la Seth Rich.
Yes...wise John! ✨
YES!

Thanks for helping people understand RC! 👏
There is way more behind this statement than normies realize....
DC wasn't part of American since the Civil War. I think this is comms from the boss that that is no longer the case..... 😎

Try missing an exit and ending up in Anacostia, MD. Find the fastest turnaround.

This is a shame and a tragedy!

Yeah, you know, ppl have been killed by being beat about the head with a tire iron, fireplace iron, etc. A lamp, a baseball bat and on and on . . .
At least to be knocked unconscious which is maybe what they expected; not expecting me to rise from the ground to chase their car, HA!
I am known to have a thick head . . .
Amen! 🙌
Oh no! So grateful you survived AL! A MIRACLE! You were saved for such a time as this! ☝️🤍🙌
God blessed you with A Warrior Spirit! ✨

It was a nice area, but criminals began to prey. Sad.
This is a fun one to apply the 72 hour rule.
Let see what happens!
How do you interpret this statement? Is Trump talking about local criminals / local crime or is he talking about politician's and the national crimes?
Considering the news as of late I'm putting my money on Mr president chewing bubble gum and kicking ass
Or, I should have asked, is Trump talking about globalists and international crimes? If he is liberating DC, kinds sounds like he is eliminating the criminals that have been controlling DC, which would be the Soros type.
ALL
ENEMIES
FOREIGN
AND
DOMESTIC
When a state and city government just sits on its ass and allows the lives of its citizens to be destroyed by fires and by crime and by drug cartels -
and does NOTHING to stop it -
and actually BARS the citizens from protecting themselves and their property -
if that's not a Domestic Enemy, what in God's name is?
3500 police in the District.
DRAIN IT………
Most crime, savagery, filth and scum are on capital hill Mr president!
Can someone explain the significance of "Thank you for your attention to this matter" sign off on his truths? Any ideas?
I believe POTUS is saying: If you don't fix this, I WILL.
