Everybody has always been for defending ourselves, war was what was abhorred. Good for the name change. It will remind people of reality.
EXACTLY my thinking, Qualified and I suspect that's the main reason the President did so. We shouldn't be using euphemisms for War. Lord knows it's easy enough already for American Leftists to ignore the horrors of war.
Plus I love that this is a call back to the original name of the department prior to 1949.
I agree. On the surface, the name change might appear as though DJT is promoting war, but I believe you are absoutely right. War is what's been going on for God know how many years, and there's been very little "defense" about it.

I'm going to savor every last second of his presidency.
When I was a child, the official name was Department of Defense. But, I recall many of the older talking heads would sometimes say "War Department". Never knew way. 🤔
Now waiting for the IDF to follow suit.
So much historical ignorance. There was no single predecessor. We did not have a unified department prior to the Department of Defense; we had the Department of War (Army) and the Department of the Navy. At the end of World War II, it was decided to split off the Army Air Forces as a separate service. And, rather than have a third military Department of the Air Force, it was decided to put them all together in a unified Department of Defense.
