POTUS is a big fan of Aspartame-sweetened Diet Coke. I've always worried about that, although his health and cognition remain awesome.
. . . Aspartame – found Diet Coke, Pepsi Max and Sprite, as well as products like Extra chewing gum – has long been linked to health concerns including cancer, high blood pressure and stroke.
Now, Spanish researchers say consuming high levels of the additive may also age the brain and stiffen the heart.
In a study on mice, higher aspartame intake – roughly equivalent to three servings every fortnight – was linked to around a 20 per cent increased risk of mild cardiac hypertrophy, a condition in which the heart muscle becomes thickened, as well as accelerated cognitive decline.
The researchers also found that body fat dropped by around a fifth in the animals.
Writing in the journal Biomedicine and Pharmacotherapy, the researchers at the Centre for Cooperative Research in Biomaterials in San Sebastián, urged officials to review current aspartame consumption guidelines.
They said: 'Aspartame does indeed reduce fat deposits by 20 per cent in mice, but it does so at the cost of mild cardiac hypertrophy and decreased cognitive performance.
'Although this sweetener may help achieve weight loss in mice, it is accompanied by pathophysiological changes in the heart and, possibly, in the brain.
In the study, mice were given a dose of 7mg of aspartame per kilogram of body weight. This was administered over three consecutive days every two weeks.
By comparison, the World Health Organization, the European Medicines Agency and the US Food and Drug Administration advise that people should consume no more than 50mg per kilogram of body weight per day. [Yes, that's more than SEVEN times the amount-per-body-weight used in the study -- and millions of people use or exceed that amount daily for DECADES]
Over a year-long follow-up, mice exposed to aspartame showed a reduction in heart output in both ventricles – falling by 26 per cent in the left ventricle and 20 per cent in the right.
The researchers also found septal curvature – the thick muscular wall separating the heart's right and left ventricles – was reduced by 25 per cent.
The mice showed 'signs of altered neurobehavior' and 'possible pathophysiological changes in the brain', the study said.

Aspartame was invented as an insecticide. The lab technician was told to test it. He thought he was told to taste it. He found out it was very sweet. The rest is history. What people don't know is that the inventor of it, begged the company not to sell it as a sweetener. They did anyway. The inventor then told his family, it was banned in his household and he did not want anyone in his family to eat anything containing aspartame.
Did not know that. Thanks.
Donald Rumsfeld was responsible for forcing the fda to use it, and classified as safe for consumption
That asshole! That figures. I didn't know that. He did, however, get our government to purchase 2 billion dollars worth of his TamiFlu years ago when they were pushing the bird flu scam. That's when a diligent lab tech tested the vaccine on some ferrets and they died. That stopped their huge vaccination scam. Mysteriously the bird flu pandemic never happened.
Yeah we're learning now of all the nefarious ways they were "culling the herd". Hell even sugar is bad for you, I suppose everything in moderation. Stay away from sucralose! It is a DNA disruptor!!
I know. I use Stevia, but I always have to double check because many companies put the chemical crap in with the Stevia. We have to read everything these days.
I have used the #1 sweetener most "DEMONIZED" throughout my awakening and that is ( sweet n low) It contains saccharine and cream detartar. You will not find this in any of your sugar free products. When Rumsfeld forced phenylalanine or aspartame for familiar terms was when they forced it through the fda, was when they demonized saccharine. I was in my 30s, I'm 65 now, no health issues!
Good for you.
I was one of the [lucky] ones who suffered severe headaches after a couple weeks on Diet Coke after the aspartame switch in the 80’s and vowed to never put that crap in my body ever again. Thats when I woke up to not believing everything approved was harmless to our bodies. Unfortunately I could never convince my mother to stop drinking Diet Coke and she died from Parkinson’s complications a couple years ago. I will always believe that aspartame played a heavy role in her illness.
Not just lucky, but smart. Many people just refuse to believe what is right before their eyes. I'm glad you caught on to it. I'm sorry to hear about your mother.
Remind me again what these ''researchers'' said about eggs, red meat, butter, ivermectin, fenbendazole, marijuana and soon to be discovered nicotine in pure form.
Pure nicotine? Care to educate?

The narrative presented about aspartame contains some elements of truth regarding its accidental discovery, but most of the specific dramatic claims are false and largely originate from long-running urban legends and conspiracy theories.
Elements of Truth
Accidental Discovery: Aspartame was indeed discovered by accident in 1965 by chemist James Schlatter while working for G.D. Searle & Company on an anti-ulcer drug.
Tasting, not Testing: Schlatter discovered its extreme sweetness when he absentmindedly licked his finger to pick up a piece of paper, a major breach of lab safety regulations. He had unknowingly contaminated his finger with the newly synthesized compound.
Commercial Potential: G.D. Searle quickly recognized the commercial potential of this intensely sweet, low-calorie substance.
False Claims & Myths Invented as an insecticide: This is false. Aspartame was developed as a potential anti-ulcer drug. The idea that it was an insecticide is a common hoax claim not supported by scientific evidence. A similar but separate urban legend exists for another sweetener, sucralose (Splenda).
"Told to test it" vs. "told to taste it": Schlatter was not "told" to do either. He discovered the taste accidentally and on his own volition by licking his finger, against safety rules. The "misunderstanding" part of the story is an embellishment of the actual accidental tasting.
Inventor begged the company not to sell it: There is no credible evidence that James Schlatter opposed the commercialization of aspartame as a sweetener. He and his lab partner were the ones who noted its potential, and their boss persuaded the company to pursue it.
Banned in his household: This claim is not supported by evidence and is part of the general body of misinformation surrounding the sweetener's health effects. Schlatter's family has not publicly confirmed such a ban, and the claim likely stems from the "Nancy Markle" email hoax and other conspiracy theories that circulated in the late 1990s.
Stevia was reportedly used as a contraceptive
I’m trying to find the source. I heard Dr Anthony Chaffee speak on this.
Stevia was reportedly used as a contraceptive by the Matto Grosso Indian tribes of Paraguay. This ethnobotanical use has been documented in studies on indigenous populations, including research on 10 ethnically different groups in Paraguay, where the plant was used for fertility regulation. The Guaraní people of Paraguay also have a tradition of using stevia, known as "ka’a he’e" in their language, for medicinal purposes, including as a natural contraceptive.
I searched on Brave search engine. The top two links are below. I can’t find Dr Chaffee’s comment. It’s probably embedded in one of his videos. I watch a lot of his content. He’s done extensive research on topics like this, studies the government and big pharma have buried.

What gets me are the lies concerning nutrition. What’s good, what prevents x disease, etc. I still hear people say they use coconut, beet, etc sugar because it’s better than cane sugar. I feel for it hook line and sinker. No, sugar is sugar and it all affects the body the same. One lye use agave instead of sugar or honey because it doesn’t mess up your glycemic index. It’s still sugar. If you use honey it’s probably not 100% or possibly not even honey. So, it doesn’t have medicinal benefits if it’s adulterated with junk.
I drank diet sodas probably twenty years. I can’t say Aspartame caused all my health problems but it didn’t help either.
Bottom line if it’s banned in Europe don’t put in your, on your body or use in the home. No wonder Americans are sicker than any other nation.
thank you for the info.
Aspartame is poison to dogs. It will destroy their liver. Think about that for a moment. A dog can eat crap out of a ditch that has been laying there for weeks and it will never bother him but one piece of gum like Trident can kill him dead. BUT it is okay for human consumption!!!
AKA "Phenylalanine" Some products don't depict the name aspartame and have adopted alternative names for poisons which have been exposed for the dangers they are responsible for.
Does he really drink that stuff?
Who is measuring time by fortnight in medical studies?
I drank Diet Coke for years. Then suddenly started to feel nauseous after a few sips. Had to move to Shasta Cola which is aspartame free. Had to go with an aspartame free gum (Purr) too.
