Nobody can "become" American. You ARE American or you are not. You can become a US Citizen and enjoy the rights and freedoms that 'Americans' enjoy, but that's it. Ted Cruz himself isn't American. He's a Cuban born in Canada who is simply a US. Citizen, and should be deported ASAP.
Nothing personal anon but this feels like hair splitting. To nearly everyone, US citizens and Americans are the same thing.
If you go through the legal process to immigrate to the US, then and only then are you an immigrant (the phrase "legal immigrant" is redundant) to this country. You have forsaken your allegiance to your original homeland and taken all the steps to become a US citizen, a term that is used synonymously with "American".
Whether someone chooses to view the terms as synonymous is an individual matter; the fact that the two terms are used as synonyms throughout the country is not.
Wrong. No hair splitting. It's the vital crux that's being intentionally blurred. Americans are a people, not a status. You don't get to hand away my heritage and call my ancestral family 'no different than the foreigner who arrived yesterday'. If you don't understand the difference, sorry for you.
Okay, but we cannot assume that the native Greenlanders want to live a fast-paced American lifestyle. Expecting them to do so never, ever ends well. Look at everywhere else it's been tried. They end up hating the West and going back to their relatively primitive lifestyles as soon as they can.
People have different cultures for a reason. And most do NOT want to change the way they live, no matter how backward we might think that is.
Respect, even within progress, must be shown to traditional culture and identities.
Ask any Native American how we could have done a better job of trying to assimilate an actual different culture into ours. It has usually been nothing but destructive.
Having an American North Pole would be great for the Elves. They would probably get better pay and not need to eat all my shit when they hang out on my shelf
You too can enjoy Somali & Haitian daycare scams. And a large part of your Treasury can be sent to Israel.
This comment deserves to be turned into a meme
Thanks for the compliment. Happy New Year.

There are some that become US citizens though, and don't forsake their allegiance (or citizenship) to their original homeland.
Some of these are known as "Senators" and they do some very Un-American things.
EDIT TO ADD: Not trying to argue fren, I just wanted to throw that in FWIW. :-)
Most do NOT forsake their allegiance to their original homeland, but they enjoy all the rights and privileges of a U.S. citizen.
That is the gigantic problem right there. Loyalty. They don't have any. Except to their "home country." Which is NOT the USA.

Amen to this.

FTFY :)
They should raise the issue of race.
