That gif always kills me. The woman standing at attention deserved a promotion for that. No idea how she didn't just at least crack a smile. I'd have been in trouble.
So many of the X comments think this is AI. Honestly they could be correct, but not for the reasons they think. One commenter said Grok choked on the video. I wonder if ChatGPT or one of the others is able to digest the video/audio and translate it - like some of the cell phones do for in-person audio translation. Maybe it just has to be fed in a little bit at a time given the size of the file to be read in.
Now I'm also curious about the sonic weapon. If it made their noses bleed and they vomited, is it possible it also made them crap themselves but they don't want to admit it?
Actually the more I think about it the more I think the translation was likely done on someone's own instance of an LLM running on a high-end server. I can see how the major AIs wouldn't let anyone upload large files that could take a fair amount of processing because it would take a lot of CPU/RAM for one person at the expense of others. Probably not enough to degrade the system, but enough to break the terms of service. If that same person has a high-end server with good GPUs and a fair amount of RAM they could do it themselves.
I have a higher-end PC with a decent (hit great) GPU and 128GB RAM that I use to rip DVDs/BluRays and transcode them to HEVC to save space on my NAS. Before I upgraded to the current PC it could take me 30-45 minutes to fully process a BluRay. Now it takes between 15-20 minutes depending on how long the rip takes. If you scale that up even just a little it would be easy for anyone to do.
I plan on running my own LLM once I have the money to get a new PC/RAM/GPU(s). Home Assistant (great smart home software) has a voice integration that instead of using google/alexa you can make (or buy) a thing similar to the echo dot except it stays local to you and uses your own LLM.
