I live on a dead end road about 8 miles from an unincorporated village. I wish the aging farmers and their children who live around me felt this way. Too many sub divide and auction off their land to cash in.
The problem with going to Detroit or another big city is that they have a much larger, powerful, and organized political community that will push back as the data centers suck up all the local power and water. They build them rurally because they know they can steamroll the small towns, and their bribed state politicians will run cover for them and override any local efforts.
It’s interesting to see how the media subtly uses images and social biases against rural families to skew the narrative on these people. The American flag, dangling from a thread. The Gadsden flag, to dog whistle the tuned-in lefties as “these are far-right scum.” Sad, really.
I understand the need to keep your land. But it's just land. You can buy better land and bank the vast majority of the rest. Then you can feed even more people.
Buy better land? The point is they dont want that productive land to be taken out of production. Data center is gonna be forever amd the fact theyll try to buy it for 10x tells me there is something else going on. Nobody has money tonwaste on land at 10x with out some ulterior motive. Ive seen companies buy land and never develope it. Paid too much and used it as a write off. It also drive up the surrounding land prices.
If she weren't farming, I'd call this out. America, and by extension the West, are depending on data centers and AI to leapfrog China's and the Old World's long game and reassert.
China was a couple of years behind last year and has been going scorched earth with lawfare, stealing technology and releasing it open source to disrupt stock prices, and running informational warfare campaigns to shift narratives. They're trying to slow it all down before it reaches escape velocity and makes decades of effort moot.
No one saw this coming. China didn't notice it coming back in 2017. The Epsteins of the world didn't either.
This woman can't appreciate what's going on and that every day lost could cost her country dearly.
Exactly - If someone is willing to pay $26 million for land that is worth $2.6 million, then they are also very willing to pay $2.6 million as the fair market value and $10+ million in bribes to get politicians to push eminent domain.
What a patriot. Now we will either see: a fire erupt in the barns and land, planes flying over with chemtrails, or challenge to water rights by the city, county and syate. Big Brother will do everything in their power to make this family sorry that they didn’t sell. I hope I am proved wrong.
Last few years farms sold out to solar in my area, 13k+ acres. Now farms being sold for data centers. 700 acre data center. Latest a farmer down the road selling his family farm for reportedly 100k/acre offer (several hundred acres) next to the current data center going up. His brother with several hundred acres next to him has refused so far but its only a matter of time before they take it or something happens to him.
I dont have as much problem with solar espesciay since trump said we aint doing muchnof it any more and silver will make it prohibitive. Also, solar panel contracts are usually 20 uears and when the lease is up you can scrap millions of dollars worth of materials.
My next door neighbor spent 85000 on solar panels for his house so he wouldn't have to pay for electricity. My electric bill in a 2 story house averages around 160 a month for the whole year that's with fluctuations in cooling and heating.
So it's expensive to do and that's not counting what it costs him to maintain it.
I admire her conviction and equally worry about the safety of those cows and/or the imminent threat of imminent domain happy politicians.

The last thing a farmers field grows is a house.
Couldn't they buy large swaths of Detroit for less?
Nahh, They're building these data centers on pristine land in Michigan. A dear friend of mine is fighting the good fight in his area.
Damn!

Great idea!
Right? I was just down there 2 weeks ago. Entire city blocks just grass, trees, and trash. Perfect location for data centers!
Imminent Domain has entered the chat...
While the use of eminent domain may be imminent, it is still not imminent domain. I suppose imminent eminent domain may be correct though.
We should absolutely start a fundraising for folks like this.
The elephant in the field ...
Erecting data centers to control every last detail of your life under the guise of better circus content and "science".
I can't believe we're all just watching this happen...
What are they spraying up there again - liquid lobotomy?

God Bless this lady!

F 'em! She and others like her are the backbone of this country.
One can't despise the media enough.
That's a very slick move.
Watch this woman's eyes as she speaks. She's reading off of a teleprompter.
I really don't want any more of these skynet farms to come in and take our land. Good for her. They draw so much energy it's sickening.
Thank you for being patriots and not greedy profiteers.

Couldn't they stack these servers in empty commercial buildings in some desperate rust belt city near a river?

Up next; imminent domain.
