That was a headline some jackass wrote because the fragments recovered were not from the portion of the billed that contacted the lands and grooves of the rifling.
Or they were going for a headline that would. Draw lots of clicks...
Only the fattest part of the bullet interfaces with the rifling.
Fining parts of the cup and core is realistic... and the analyzes that they are doing is probably in response to the "the bullet doesn't match the gun" headlines from people like Candace who don't know dick about forensics...
Or they actually have people who know what they are doing involved now...
Are you saying they found the cup now? The FBI supposedly didn't have it and the FBI supposedly couldn't tie Tyler Robinson's rifle to bullet fragment they did have. There's no going back to try to find extra bullet fragments now. The crime scene was conveniently paved over shortly after the crime. If the ATF is doing ANYTHING in response to Candace Owens, that's a huge problem. They're supposed to be searching for truth, calling balls and strikes, and no internet commentary should be driving that. If they "actually have people that know what they're doing now" that's a huge problem too. This is the most impactful assassination this century, and to wait until now to bring real experts into the investigation is a miscarriage of justice.
Headline is a bit misleading in the opposite direction as CO.
I think that all that they have matched is the caliber at this point.
But an ATF summary of the forensic report, part of documents filed by the defense in January, was unsealed by a judge on Wednesday revealing more details of the forensic investigation and recovered evidence from the scene.
The report reveals that one bullet jacket fragment that was recovered from Kirk’s autopsy matched a .30 caliber class bullet. Four other lead bullet fragments were also recovered.
'The ATF lab described the item as a “.30-caliber class deformed/damaged bullet jacket fragment,”‘ the filing reveals, citing evidence included in the report after the FBI lab conducted analysis of the bullet jacket fragment.
This whole event stinks all the way around. Every aspect of the case is flawed and contradicts.
The only punishment in this whole event will the the guy that so poorly-designed the operation. Whom, at some point, will have his scarf tied to a door knob.
We are living in a quagmire! Time to open up all the windows and air the place out.
The possibility that Robinson is a patsy and actually pulled the trigger is not mutually exclusive. He wouldn’t be the first person manipulated into carrying out someone else’s scheme and believing it was his choice.
My prediction is the evidence, his texts and notes, the testimony of his transgender partner, and the testimony of his parents will show beyond a reasonable doubt he did it. And, when that happens, the possibility there was a larger scheme at play gets swept under the rug.
What you’re saying could be possible. But, the testimony his parents and gay lover will give is going to be damning. His texts, notes, and other evidence will mount up as well. They’re going to show that he believes he was Charlie’s killer.
And, if he believes he was Charlie’s killer, no one is going to dig deeper.
Agreed.
including the range/berm Was my nod to in the interest of "including all possibilities" based on how things were phrased...
I have not seen the ATF report.
It is interesting that the ATF report was part of a submission by the defense... Maybe that is what pushed CO in hyperbolic addled state to go scorched earth "it doesn't match"....
My understanding was the ATF report said the fragment was too damaged to confirm it came from Robinson’s rifle, but they also could not exclude the possibility that it did. The sensationalists immediately spun that into it doesn’t match.
Exactly
They didn't find a jacket fragment with impressions from the lands and grooves. But if they found the base of the cup, or part of a boat tail they could identify the caliber.
Now they are talking about metallurgical analysis, which might work since that rifle had be sporterized (rebarrreled?) And thus would have an atypical barrel metalurgy.
I don't believe anything 'they' reveal anymore.
The news cycle is designed to keep everyone distracted and arguing. It's effective.
Very, JJ. ✅
Yeh, almost all information nowadays is mis- or dis-.
I've heard the bullet doesn't match the rifle.

Couldn’t match; not didn’t match. Not enough info from the fragment to match. My question is why the fragmentation? No bone there.
They must have found the base of the cup if they know the caliber.
I'm not sure they did. A lot of this feels like they are trying to force their limited evidence to fit the crime they say Tyler Robinson committed.

Oh!
And they said that: "the fragments were found during the autopsy."
But not where.
I.e.,
Lodged in his scapula....
Or
In the berm at a gun range...
