Wait, haven't we been told how damaging lithium mining is to the surrounding environment? Every debate on EVs I've ever read included the environmental damage. Has this suddenly changed?
US has the EPA, 3rd world countries, where most of the lithium mining has historically taken place, don’t have stringent measures in place.
Having said that, I’m not too keen on the idea of lithium mining those beautiful mountains.
God put things on this earth for humans to use. God made earth for man not vice versa.
The earth takes care of itself and eventually reclaims any damage done by man.
Earth worship is not biblical or godly.
American independence is the objective. That's. what this war is all about.
It is much folly to depend on outside sources to provide energy for America.
Well I came in to say that I'm not exactly what some would call a tree hugger but I am a nature lover and I sure would hate to see the Appalachians get all tore up. It seems others share the same sentiment.
Also, I feel like the Appalachian folk would fight with bloodshed to save their land.
Didn't they do, in some capacity, mountain top removal to get at coal? That seems destructive. Slurry ponds contaminating everything too. I know coal is not the same as lithium, nor is it mined in the same ways but seeing pictures of lithium mines, I dunno, seems like it could be pretty devastating to the area.
I'm not from Appalachia so I only know what I've read about.
They tunneled underground to get coal. I've driven through the area numerous times, and I've never seen any lasting evidence of former mining. Nature takes over quickly after man leaves.
We have 7 Lithium mines in my state, West Australia, one of which is the largest hard rock lithium mine in the World. Most lithium deposits are in desert kind of places and there is plenty of it. NO NEED to displace the Appalachians!.

Me either.
humans are more important than mountains. It's biblical.
I see what you did there :)
Mining can be done without damaging the "environment." It's a matter of how much money people are willing to spend.
I am torn. Please dont ruin my mountains
Does this mean we're going strip mine the untouched forests of Maine?
I surely hope not

I just asked a question. I didn't say we shouldn't do it.
I beg your pardon MichiganisRED.
It's all good. I largely agree with you.

It's not "tore up" by the coal mining and other mines we used to have.

WV is a beautiful state.
I haven't made it there yet. I've been to TN, KY, VA, IL, and much of the Midwest and South.
I hope you get the opportunity. I liked the old train stations. The WV people are very creative and resourceful.
That’s why it was torched
And flooded by a magically-stalling hurricane…..

Probably plenty more all over if we look hard enough.
Lots in West Virginia, I’m sure. That’s great news for the miners that can’t mine coal much anymore.
Not only that, but I am pretty sure that the amount of Rare Earths out in the mid west surpass the amount China has.
All of the top 100 minerals in industry can be found in NC. We used to have a ton of mines for gold, tin, copper, and more.
I thought sodium-ion batteries were going to replace lithium. They also can't have thermal runaway fires.
