It's overdue and I support it, but it's just symbolic. Those ppl make their money in so many other ways that missed gov paychecks isn't going to affect them. Plus they will probably get backpay when it opens back up anyway.
The reason they fight against losing pay is that if they didn't then people would realise their government scheckel isn't their primary source of income.
IMO, most of those folks up there are multi millionaires if not billionaires, missing $200k is just putting lipstick on the pig. There are a few exceptions, but not many. Shut down their staff pay, shut down their insurance, shut it all down. Most of them do not live pay check to pay check, but I would wager a large majority of their staff might. Let them explain to their staff that they are making a principled stand and you just need to work for free. My brother, who retired from the US Army, after 30 years, took a Government job. During the last shutdown, he was impacted, however, he was forbidden from taking on any additional supplemental income opportunities. If he did, he forfeited his back pay. Same went for the TSA agents from what I understand. So he went and took golf lessons and played everyday until the shut down was over. He got all of his back pay, so basically, he was paid to play golf. Just some ranting on my part. I love the fact my brother served and I tell him every chance I get. Have a great weekend everyone.

Ditto
Congress doesn't get their wealth from their paychecks. They get it from their AIPAC sponsors, who get it from American taxpayers.
They should be forced to pay salaries of furloughed ppl out of their own deep pockets and pacs.
I don't have X so can't read the article. Nonetheless that's great news!
