we all love to eat
and its easy to over-eat…
do you eat until you are full-full?
like, dont even have room for ice cream… full …
we love the sensation of a full belly,
but it it really necessary?
do we need to eat
like its thanksgiving
every single day?
or could we get by on less?
instead of 6 bowls of cereal
could we get by on 1 or 2 ?
instead of a plain double cheeseburger
could we get by on a single with the works?
instead of a large diet coke
could we get by on a water?
instead of 2 orders of large fries,
maybe we could share a small fry instead ?
and if you’re going out for a steak dinner
maybe you could bring left-overs home
and maybe instead of ordering a pizza
you eat the leftovers in the fridge?
and instead of loading your pantry with junk food
maybe you could use a garden tool or two?
and maybe instead of seconds,
you could wash the dishes first
and maybe instead of door dash
we cook something on the grill out back?
and maybe instead of eating all the leftovers
you cut the leftovers in half too?
you can even stretch your leftover ribs
for a whole week or two
eating is a vice
and its easy to do
its difficult to quit
cold turkey for sure
but its about self dicipline
and thinking about
every single bite you take
and planning on
what you are gonna do
long term
before you kill that last pizza slice
it’s about moderation
And knowing when to say when
And saying grace before you eat
Should help keep the midnight snacking down
You can do without the soda pops
You can do without the chips
Your body is just craving water
Your body is just craving salts
Your body is craving protein
Your body is craving carbs
Your body is craving fats
Not some shit grown in a lab
So taking an inventory of what you’ve got in your cupboard right now
Do a deep dive on the shit that’s in your own house
Look up the ingredients and see what they do
Start selectively, replacing the worst of the worst
You don’t have to change overnight
But you can make small improvements every day
And if you are overweight
Then Ozempic is not the way
Diet and Exercise
And exercises for your brain
Instead of watching a game on TV
Take your fat ass
on a 3 mile walk
spend some time with your better half
and have a 3 mile talk
Good advice for office workers.
Their are very few fat roofers....
Strictly speaking biologically we’re hardwired with a tendency towards overeating. As food for significant portions of our history was far from being consistent. Everyone also did far more manual labor. So you got used to eating heartily when you were able to. As there was no guarantee you could later. If the Harvests failed, herds moved, ships never arrived etc. You starved. But you also still had work to do often enough.
The tendency towards overeating isn’t helped by the fact that processed foods is deliberately engineered to be addictive at a biological level and hyper palatable to boot. With them going a step further and using psychological tricks and conditioning with the advertising and packaging. One of the biggest employers of chemists, and Psychologists outside of Medicine. Is the Food industry. With their main goals being engineering food that is even more addictive and hyper palatable than it is already. And discovering new psychological techniques for use in advertising. Significant portions of the Food in this country is quite literally the product of Frankenstein science experiments.
It’s also been only been comparatively recently historically speaking that food, processed or otherwise, has been plentiful enough. That being fat has become an issue for every level of the economic hierarchy and not just the Rich. The Body hasn’t quite caught up to the physical reality. Which is even poor people can afford to be walking around looking like Beachballs these days. And often enough even the people doing back breaking labor for a living are sporting impressive guts.
Solid thoughts. Self discipline is key to growth and growth is key to ascension of any type. Self reliance is a core value that our elders embraced as autonomy. My depression era grandparents modeled a no waste/grow your own lifestyle down to the leftovers, that became a weekend 'slumgullion' (stew) that gramps created from grandma's leftovers on Friday evenings in a tasty nod to his hobo days. Grandma didn't grow everything, but she grew enough to have plenty to share as well as trade for what she wanted/needed. She talked with God in the kitchen as she cooked, sometimes singing scripture, so every meal was blessed before anybody ever even made it to the table. Gluttony was not an acceptable behavior, nor was ingratitude. And when the doctors gave her six months to live, in the early 70s, she and God proved em all wrong for the next 24 years. Great post!
Friday was also my mom's day for using all the leftovers in the refrigerator.
And "what's for supper" = what needs to be eaten before it goes bad.
I have 4 brothers. Growing up, leftovers were usually not a thing. I remember my mom grinding meat for hamburg and the 5 of us sitting around the table like little birds waiting for bits of ground meat to be dropped into our mouths. The good old days.
My aunt had four brothers, and a sister, all older than she (including my Dad). She learned to not be shy at the supper table, or she would have nothing to eat! I can't remember her quote, something like "the quick or the hungry."
Kek!
I can relate!
Bigger families back then. My youngest brother was born in 1960.
At 13, I was my youngest brother's god-mother (he was the caboose surprise born in 1965). All the aunts and uncles were already taken!
Yep and never the same meal twice!
A sincere THANK YOU for posting that. I'm already doing most of what you suggest
Good advice for everyone!
I am actually having fun regrowing from food scraps. Potatoes, onions, carrots, celery in my garden now all from scraps.
Eating is not a vice. Gluttony is (also a sin).
My over-arching rule is to think like a caveman! If a caveman would not be eating it then your body is most likely not best adapted for it. So, think mainly meat and berries with possibly some nuts.
Also remember that cavemen did not have fridges or freezers. When they ran out of meat they had to mount an expedition to go and find some more. They often went for days without food. I think average-sized people can go for a month or more without food but they need water.
As a starter, cut out extra sugar including biscuits/cookies, cakes and processed food. Remove carbs whenever possible. As for diets, look at carnivore and keto. And no snacking!
Yes, I've lost nearly 4 stones now or 56 pounds.
"Accept less."
how did you know my ass was fat?? kek...
Overeating is sometimes a social behavior. We celebrate with food. Absolutely bizarre that poisoning our friends and family with sugar is socially expected.
If we see others eating we want to eat too. If food is scarce it's a good tactic to get your fair share.
💯common sense approach. Mindfulness and moderation in ALL things.
