And why doesn't Gov. Bashear just go to the hospital and force his way into Mitch's room, with State Troopers tailing along? That would end the discussion pretty quick.
This is not a bad idea. The sheriff of a county can also open an investigation and the sheriff himself can go anywhere where an investigation is underway without any interference.
Do we really want to encourage that sort of behavior from the government?
Yes, when it is the government performing an audit on its own official.
McConnell is a Public Servant, answerable to the public and to his state. His health and welfare is directly material to his performance of his duties. It is no different than the sergeant of a platoon checking up on the status of one of his troopers in sick bay. The function of the Senate is impaired by the absence of even one Senator.

It's not just if he still lives, he could be brain dead or a coma so unable to continue his duties. The fact his wife fled shows it is very possible.
Someone should rush a warrant through for either the FBI (Kash send someone honest) or US Marshals to confirm proof of life and cognizance.
If McConnell is still able to talk on the phone for 20-30 minutes at a time, talking about political issues, it shouldn’t be hard for him to get in front of a camera and do a live shot to dispel the rumors. The fact that we only get second hand accounts from people close to him just feeds speculation that he is not able to do his job anymore. Where is his “loving” wife? Shouldn’t she be in front of a camera also, after being at his bedside, of course? Honesty and transparency would be so refreshing.
