Agreed, imo we should have smrs under or next to most sub stations. There's absolutely no reason not to especially smaller modular reactors that have low to no risk of a meltdown. That's why I assumed it utilized a carborundum fuel cell as the self titrating reaction removes the need for a cooling system or even control rods (worst case scenario)

Oh my mistake. I should have probably read the article before assuming this was another carborundum encased fuel cell smr. I'm more familiar with rolls royce mtus design than I am any of nuscales lwr designs and I guess just assumed newer models would utilize self titrating silicone carbide for safety purposes. I'm actually very surprised the nrc approved nuscales design without it. I suppose I need to actually read the article nown😂

Worth saying this has been a thing for some years now, we're just thoroughly cucked by regulation on the nuclear front

Yeah the carborundum advancements in the fuel cells is a total game changer. Lots of companies waiting for nrc approval but nuscale has a monopoly in the market until approval is announced. Can't wait as I work in the energy sector and would love to work on smrs and portable modular reactors . It's the only way to answer the coming demand for ai
