Hmm. My son plays chess, as does my husband (though my husband is bigger on SCRABBLE(TM)) I can see the reasoning behind this so I'm trying to keep an open mind. I wouldn't necessarily have chosen Elon Musk (for example) as a White Hat, but I think he has proven his loyalty. The point about Americans' short memory is salient, and should be kept in mind.
Now, let's say Mr. Thune is a WH and is doing the bidding of President Trump and refuses to pass the SAVE bill then the illegal voter issue stays fresh in peoples minds just before the November elections. If it finally passes in October then there will be plenty of time to tell the Secretaries of State how to proceed with revamping their election day responsibilities. They cannot argue with a legally passed law, no matter when it becomes effective. They march to their Oaths to defend America or they get arrested for treason.
When people like Obama and Biden begin to be arrested, the Secretaries of State are gonna raise an eyebrow as to what they should be doing. Side with the law or with their deep state masters. Some will go with the DS but most will follow the law.
Thus Thune is taking the arrows for not passing the SAVE act right now in order to keep the voting issue fresh in the minds of Americans.
I'm more inclined to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I also think there is a point where good faith can no longer be assumed. Fauci, Brix, Obama, Ehud Barak, Hillary R. Clinton, Kamala Harris, Xavier Becerra, George Bush I, John McCain, Mitch McConnell, and others I'm sure are (or were) Black Hats. (Although Kamala may be too ditzy for this classification, she did her share of damage to CA) So, I'm at your side on this one unless evidence becomes clear in the other direction!

Some who claim to be Christians do this too, they'll pull 2nd Corinthians 5:21 out of context: (IMHO, this is one of the most egregious ones, and is addressed In D. R. McConnell's book, A Different Gospel which I highly recommend!)

Without the context of those verses, we really can't determine what they truly mean.
