I have mixed feelings on this sentiment. I think there are two types of people now:

1. Those that knew that evil was afoot and refused to submit
2. Those that submitted and supported the waves of hate pointed at those in 1).

If you are in 1) you are special. If you are type 2), you consented to evil happening and you did not speak up - regardless of the fact that you are a victim too. All that we had to do was all speak with one voice and say "We're not going to take it". And it would have all stopped.
