There were far more people protesting than police today which is why they backed off in the end. They are still protesting. It is now 4 in the afternoon here and they have been at it all day. Things are dire here. No jab, no job.
The people here have turned out in large numbers. Police vans retreated when their paths were blocked and the piazza is still filled with thousands of protesters. The resistance today has been strong despite batons, tear gas and water cannons used earlier against the dockers and truckies.
