They would have destroyed it if they won, too.
The irony of all of it is that no matter what teams are in the Stupor Bowl aside from Dallas, viewership wouldn't be as high unless Dallas was playing. I'm not into football that much as I prefer hockey, but still, it amazes me about a team who people love to hate and love to love. Don't know what it is about the Cowboys, probably all that "America's Team" garbage, but man, a lot of people hate them. Even Tom Landry despised that moniker, but he was screwed over by Jerry Jones and that turned a lot of old-timers off.
Watched Dances with Wolves [long version] last night instead of the Stupor Bowl. Hadn't seen it in awhile, and realized how much I missed sweeping epics such as this, Gone with the Wind, Doctor Zhivago, Ben-Hur and The Ten Commandments, to name a few. It is a shame that Hollywood no longer produces quality films anymore, but thankfully they are available on Blu-Ray and I have a home theater to appreciate it. All this stuff about slavery reminds me of the troubles of the great Native American nations having to deal with the encroachment of the white man. I am not a poster child for Native American rights by any stretch [although my wife is Cherokee], but all this talk about reparations falls short because the ones who really got screwed were the Native American tribes, the Irish, the Chinese and the Italians, to name a few.
I thought of an appropriate tune for our times, still a classic after all these years. Here is the link for I'd Love to Change the World by Alvin Lee and Ten Years After:
Enjoy!
"Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet and so are you.....but the roses are wilted, the violets are dead, sugar is lumpy and so is your head."
For some odd, unexplainable reason I just had to post that. I'm actually too busy ignoring the stupor bowl.
The feet and right above the kneecaps, but if anyone tries that I am going to clock them good.
I only tweeted five times yesterday, but when I went on today, it said I reached tweet limit. WTF? Five tweets?
Catturd is going to town on there. Pretty funny stuff.
She is pretty hot.
I'll tell you what, bubble, the day it is no longer fun, I'm not going to work. There are still kids out there starving for knowledge, and it is an honor to be a part of that process.
The one where you are given a square and a "tilted" square inside the big square, whereas you have four right triangles formed inside the big square in addition to the tilted square. I know this sounds a little confusing, but essentially you add the four right triangles and the small square together to get the area of the big square, and then using algebra you set the areas equal to each other, cancel the like terms and that leaves you with a^2 + b^2 = c^2. The coolest thing about this, aside from the confusing description, is that you can see the light bulb coming on when the kids realize that by subtracting like terms, you derive the formula. Hey, a win is a win, and it is cool to see kids "get it." Some don't and some won't, but there are a couple that see the connection, and that alone is worth the trouble of being a teacher these days π
Made some substantial progress getting the kiddos to do a Pythagorean proof today. There may be hope for the post-Covid students after all.
By Job, I've finally figured it out. I knew that guy giving the speech last night was the screaming old dude in Poltergeist. Son of a bitch.
I did not know that.
Always appreciate the kind words. Thanks Joy.
Great post, concise synopsis of what it is like. Thanks Fren.
Back up here.
I frequently think of how I want Blue Oyster Cult's Veteran of the Psychic Wars to be played at my funeral. Speaking for just myself in this case, I think I've seen enough evil and sickness in this world to qualify for the big truth reveal. As Aldous Huxley once said, "maybe this world is another planet's hell."
Now there's something you can't unsee if it ever were to happen.
I remember when I was a kid I saw the movie Darby O'Gill and the Little People, and that banshee scared the fucking daylights out of me - and that was back in the 60's. Pales in comparison to today.
Seems these days anything is fair game. Look at what they did to Trump. Social media introduced a demon into society and it runs amok among us.
I have been there, the darkness and the pain. Obviously I wasn't successful. If it taught me anything, it showed me that there are forces beyond one's control [or at least we think there are] that dictate the grand scheme of things. The only reasonable conclusion I can draw is that there was a reason I wasn't successful. Perhaps one day I will figure it out.
Symbolism, eh?
My sentiments exactly.
That's pretty funny, actually. Swing low, sweet chariot...lol. I remember the scene from Blazing Saddles where they start singing "I get no kicks from champagne..." Classic.
