Thanks, I’m glad I got to go to Hawaii. I’ve been through the state of GA many times going to FL, but never visited there. I want to go to Savannah and St Simon's Island. I read a fiction loosely truth based novel series about St Simon’s island, I think it was written in 1950s or before. Mostly based in or after Confederate war period and after the slaves were freed. Charleston is my favorite city. I’ve been a lot since I was twelve. Honestly any where in the south near the coast is alright with me.
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas 🎄 What you cooking for Christmas festivities? I’m already exhausted and have more to do tomorrow. It’s quickly reminded me just how much my mom did for everyone at Christmas. She absolutely loved decorating and cooking for the Christmas Eve family gathering.
Today I cooked peanut butter blossoms (pb cookie with Hersey kiss on top) and chocolate chip cookies. Tonight I’ve attempted to make my mom’s ice cream dessert. Oreo cookie crust, ice cream, chocolate fudge like on sundae & nuts. I don’t eat it but everyone else loves it. I don’t want anything in ice cream. For the out law (FIL calls us that, not In laws😀) side of my family I’m making PB pie for hubby & lemon pie. Whew, I gotta get back to eating meat and eggs!
Edit: I used to love Oreos and could blindly overeat them. I’ve had a 1/2 cookie and it wasn’t great. They also don’t smell good. My family and hubby’s eat lots of processed food. We used to and my daughter’s family eats healthier version of snacks (not a lot). It amazes me we ate that junk most of our lives. If we are going to eat off plan we try to cook it from scratch to know what we are eating.
I’m very thankful I was able to visit Hawaii, that’s something my mom always did for us. I’ve traveled a lot in USA since I was small. She took me, my brother and nephew twelve years ago. I believe the surfing competition was in the last month & may be still happening. I was watching some on YouTube yesterday. The larger waves are usually at the peak from January to February. Virginia Beach is nice but a little more commercialized than NC beaches. NC has a big shoreline and the beach towns are busy but it’s a slower pace. It’s more small businesses than chain businesses and restaurants. I love the beach near Charleston SC, they have a very nice state park on the beach.
Oh cool. NC northern outer banks (obx) near Cape Hatteras attracts surfers. Also nothing like Hawaii. There’s a documentary about surfing the largest waves in the world. I think it’s in Poland or Portugal. It’s always very cold when waves are the biggest. Those guys most definitely are tempting fate on those waves. Edit: when I went to Hawaii I drug my family to the North Shore. Drove for miles and nothing but calm water. I finally asked a local where are the waves. Tourists tattooed on my head! It’s only in the winter. I knew that but got excited I was there. It’s ok because it was so beautiful.
Have you ever watched surfing? Those guys and gals are true athletes. Unlike over paid celebrities in baseball, basketball & football. Pipeline at the North Shore on Oahu is rocking. It’s got to be thrilling & a little scary riding a ten foot (and up to 30) wave. Lots of videos are on YouTube.
Thanks I finally found a recipe with butter. I don’t mind experimenting but not during Christmas baking. According to online sites tallow is great for baking, just don’t get the same flavor as butter. Merry Christmas to you as well, gobby. What’s your username stand for? If you can’t say because it will give your identity I get that. Mine is an Elvis song, I’m so much like the girl in the song.
Hey, I started replying to you several days ago, got interrupted by g-baby or hubby. My first time back here since then. You will get a decent reply soon. For now I get it with pets. Love em and we get so much love back. I’m a sucker for a cat! I’ll worry so much about this little guy because I can’t keep him inside.
Anyone bake with tallow? Or have experience with baking cookies? I’m a decent cook since I was teenager. My husband wants me to cook peanut butter blossoms cookies. I haven’t cooked these in years. They call for (Cisco) shortening which is vegetable seed oil junk. If you are old enough you know it was marketed as a lard replacement. I’ve read you can use butter to substitute but have to fridge before baking. Thanks Edit: found butter recipe. If you have experience baking with tallow feel free to share.
When I was a child my mom watched The Donagh show, I remember Neil Sedaka playing piano and singing. Such great music memories. The 70s is my favorite music era. One thing you didn’t have to worry about pre 80s music was the bad language. I don’t worry about my granddaughter hearing words a toddler shouldn’t know. We were in a store last week a song came on, shut up and drive, she started saying little louder shut up. Mama quickly told her we don’t say that. Even country music today isn’t safe for kids to hear. You are correct it was a simpler time and I think people were happier or at least not crazy.
I get not wanting to put the time into a relationship. If something happened to my man I don’t believe I’d ever want another one. I’d be comparing new guy to him. We have been married 36 years and together almost two before marriage. I try not to think about it. We have discussed in great detail we don’t the other alone, especially at our age. His best friend died three years ago so it kinda hit home plus me almost dying. I used to say I’d be gay before I had to train (put up with) another man. Now I don’t say that. The last five years has opened my eyes to what’s right and wrong sexually. Honestly I was always joking. I ain’t attracted to a girl!!! But I know not to joke because it’s disrespectful to God.
Oh boy pets! I’m laughing at you and God’s conversation about pets. I love this little kitten already but really don’t want him. I’m not doing litter box again. Don’t want my house tore up. He comes in but I mostly go outside to see him. Plus dog is petrified of him. I’ll always love cats more. Grandbaby is getting first experience with a cat. It’s so cute. Says kitty, kitty, kitty all day long.
The dog is on our last nerve with the barking. Possibly from being blind & jealous of his human sister. He has also had a few seizures each year for the last 4-5 yrs. It’s usually nov-dec with weather changes. You know how quickly it can change in NC & SC. Like a dang yo yo or spazzed out women. We are finally to the pt don’t want responsibility. Want to travel with out obligations. I do love the little four legs of attitude. He’s with me at least 3 days a week and some weekends. Want freedom but don’t want him gone. At some point we will probably have to make that hard decision. Between blind and seizures his quality of life could be less eventually. Cross bridge at that time.
I’m in the east near 95 and over the past few months have been hearing military planes and helicopters more than usual. They are to high up to see and it’s at night a lot. I also check ADS exchange and they are hidden.
I’m in Carteret county at least once a month. They have been doing lots training over the last few months. I follow a group on facebook in that area people were posting asking what the boom was. Rattling windows and some thought the house had been hit. I know one was Cherry Point training, they post when they will be training with explosives. It was also heard at Emerald Ilse, I’d think that was Camp LeJeune. This was about two weeks.
I see one appears to be headed to Jacksonville, FL. It’s flew off the coast of Portland MN & Boston. I’m not sure how to track ships, could be an aircraft carrier there, link attached. I’m not very knowledgeable it tracking planes.

Also see plane looks like Air Force One. Again, I don’t know much about this. I’m aware of the call sign changing if pres or vp is on board, not sure how to identify.
We all fall off the (metaphorical) wagon every now and then. I’m so guilty especially when I think negative thoughts about others. Praying for you. Take a few minutes a day to talk to God, it helps me tremendously. At least I’m not taking to myself as much as I once did😊
You have been through a lot! Thankfully you and God looked out for you. He’s always taking care of us even if we don’t realize it. I don’t think I’d remarry if things didn’t work out with my husband. Took a lot for me to trust him. Heck he’s the only guy I dated more than a couple weeks. Well I got the blind grand dog half the time and a little kitten that rode home under my daughter’s car. He can’t come inside because dog is scared of cats🤦🏻♀️ He’s living under my house. He will come up to me now. I love cats, I know God sent him. That purr melts my heart.
That’s great! I wish I had been better educated back then. In 1992 there wasn’t much information unless you knew health gurus or hippies. Thankfully my daughter was and is healthy. I breastfed six weeks until the milk dried. Then it was formula, rice cereal and then gerber baby food. At least it wasn’t as many toxins back then.
It’s just carrier oils like coconut, olive, jojoba, hemp, castor, almond, etc. Those are just a few of the common oils. Basically any plant seed can be made into oils. These oils can be safely applied topically and won’t burn you. Essential oils are classified as hot, warm, etc. I’m sorry I’m not educated enough to advise what oils are safe to apply topically with out a carrier.
Oils like lemongrass, tea tree and oregano are extremely hot. I learned that the hard way. Back when I was very new I put lemongrass on a wet washcloth and applied after bathing. You don’t make that mistake twice! It burned me like a sunburn. I believe lavender is the only oil that can be applied safely not mixed with carrier oils, don’t rely on me for this.
Also some oils are considered photosensitive and many will burn more easily if they get in the sun after using. Same as some prescription meds. I don’t have that issue with those oils meds. Sure, I’ll burn if out too long but don’t have issues with photosensitivity.
Great question how'd they do it back then in Israel since I'd think it's hotter there The oils brought by the wisemen, frankincense and myrrh are considered essential oils. They don’t go rancid. They could use their potency after a while. When an essential oil is considered expired it can still be used in room sprays etc, just doesn’t have aromatherapy capabilities. Again, I’m far from an expert on essential oils. This week I’ll try to find some helpful websites. I know where to look just might take me a little while.
If you are going to order essential oils that aren’t blended with coconut (or other carrier oils) that will work for aromatherapy diffusing. You can get a nasal diffuser and put few drops on the cotton swab, each company sells them or you can order from Amazon. There’s lots of electric & car diffusers available as well. I haven’t researched those. Simple way is a few drops in palm of your hand (for some reason doesn’t burn the palm). Rub hands together and put your hands over nose. Take deep breaths. I do this a lot with frankincense or bergamot. There’s also table side diffusers made out of stone or volcanic rock, these are inexpensive. I keep cheaper oils in bathroom I get at TJ Maxx (rest of that chain). Put a few drops in toilet after I go or walk in after someone else stunk it up🤨 I don’t keep the regular bathroom spray, allergic.
When essential oils are blended with a carrier oil for topical application it’s done with a certain percentage of essential oil and the rest carrier. I think 3% is the amount you face application. I have a chart I keep on my fridge. It’s from 3-10% depending on the usage. This is one reason I don’t blend my oils. I can figure out how to get a virus off a pc but can’t add simple math without calculator (can still screw up with it). If my husband is here he will help me. Bottom line if you aren’t safe with percentages blending it can be dangerous for topical application. It’s not rocket science, more people probably do this in their homes than professionals. I just know my limits!
I think Eden’s Garden is 25% until the sales end. Plant Therapy has been doing a certain product line about half off and 15% off other items. I’m not sure about the other companies. If you ever miss a sale google plant therapy coupon there’s usually at least 10% online. Also plant therapy gives rewards you can apply to check out. Do a review, get a reward. If you shop a lot it’s worth taking the time to review.
aromatics.com has very good oils and some I don’t find elsewhere. Little more expensive, have certain oils on sale most always, offers rewards (not as good as plant therapy). I like that they use olive oil instead of coconut in blends. Especially if I’m using on my face. Coconut dries me out. They have a great blog and recipes, also YouTube channel. You can learn a lot from them.
Hope that helps.
I hadn’t thought of it. You can make basically anything with sourdough, I believe it’s the original baking method. I haven’t tried sourdough yet, it’s my goal to eventually do this so when I occasionally want bread, etc I can make it. My daughter has baked a lot of different things.
